Has anyone else received this email today:

Starting Jan 1, 2005, all cell phone numbers will be made public to
telemarketing firms. So this means as of Jan 1, your cell phone may
start ringing off the hook with telemarketers, but unlike your home
phone, most of you pay for your incoming calls. These telemarketers
will eat up your free minutes and end up costing you money in the long
run.

According to the National Do Not Call List, you have until Dec. 15th
2004 to get on the national "Do not call list" for cell phones. They
said that you need to call 1-888-382-1222 from the cell phone that you
wish to have put on the "do not call list" to be put on the list. They
also said you can do it online at http://www.donotcall.gov .

Registering only takes a minute, is in effect for 5 years and will
possibly save you money (definitely frustration)! Make sure you
register now!

I have gotten it about 3 times now. I believe it will happen eventually, but not yet. I read on snopes that they are going to publish a list of cell phone numbers, but there are a lot of people against it. I went ahead and registered my cell phone on the do not call list just in case. I just don't see how solicitors can legally call you since you are limited on the amount of minutes with a certain plan. I see lawsuits coming because of solicitors wasting minutes and people going over their monthly usage.

My comment on this is "ROAST EM" I'm against unsolicited advertising. I had to berate a woman last night for calling me every night this week trying to get me to subscribe to the local paper. If I wanted it I know how to use a phone book to call them. It isn't a RIGHT to shove your dumb crap advertising scam at me. Telemarketing if for people with nothing to sell and no skills to offer. Mainly idiots who all have the same dumb idea to make a "Business Directory" selling advertising.

I like to set my modem to re-dial an 80 page fax over and over again to any fax machine I identify from a telemarketer. I love to waste there resources, just remember to wait till after 5 pm to do it, that way it can run undisturbed all night or until there paper and toner run out.

That's pretty good. I heard of people saying hang on and then putting the phone down and talking to other people. I have a few audio clips of a guy that records his work and he has his computer play plane clips and then asks then to repeat what they said. He gets the people really upset. I would upload them on here, but I don't know how.

My favorite thing to do is when they call and ask for Mr. Young. This is what I say...

"Nope, he is not here right now, but when you do get a hold of him, let him know that I am F*$%#ing his wife."

Most hang up right then...

no no no! you got to have a cap gun handy and hopefully a female is present and you start screaming all kinds of obseneites like you are having an argument with the wife, then fire the cap gun a few times as if you just took her out.... gotta be dramatic about it!

and if you really want to have some fun, get back on the fone with the telemarketer and ask her to call the police for you... see what she says!

That funny stuff ,
When they call my house I reply very nice, "At the moment I do not have time to talk, but if you will give me your phone number at home, I will call you during supper and we can then talk about it then."

I do what Mr Gravity does, they usually say they don't give out their home numbers so i say, why? don't you want people calling you at home?

Another one i like to do is ask for a credit card number and explain that i charge my time at £25 an hour. They tend not to hang around to long.

I did telemarketing as a job for a sickening six months. I hated that job with a passion. All the people there trying to get you excited about disturbing others while they are relaxing at home made me want to vomit. I don't understand how people can actually buy from a company that calls them and not the other way around. The whole "give me your number so I can call you back" is old, you guys need something fresh and new Tell them that you're too busy burying the bodies. Or the voices say not to listen to you.

Have fun hehe

That was on the news here a few months ago ..I called Verizon and they will not be participating in the cell directory .They say their customers desirve and pay for cell phones in part for the privacy factor and they will never join any national registry listing cell phone numbers. I will stay with them now for sure .I would be mad if I get some telemarketer calling me on mine ..
