Cheers

You will also need this, MA120-95 One piece transmission block kit to go with the 15 tooth pinion.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

I have already got those two, I have seen some speed up gears for the tail box and wanted to try them.

I hope you are not using the speed up gears in the tail box on your Fury. That would be a bad move in my opinion. Use the 15 tooth front gear, and the stock tail gears. The speed up gears will not hold up with a newer gyro (401 or 601.) These speed up gears were made to help with ultra slow head speeds in FAI hovering. Peizo gyros were just coming out. Those speed up tail gears were not built to withstand today's power and gyros.

Hi Paul

Thanks for your reply, I thought you could use these gears as well as the 15tooth gear up front, if you set your gyro to a softer stop.

The stop is only part of the problem. On certain windy days, one can actually hear the gyro working the tail (the 601.) You can hear the zzzt, zzt ,zzt of the tail blades even with no input from the transmiter. This is what eats up the gears. Also this is why it is desirable to use the metal box with the 601. The gyro itself works the heck out of the tail.

The present tail gears are about as hard as they can be without being too brittle. This is twice the hardness of the speed up gears. The speed up gears will work, but not for long. Keep an eye on them if you wish to use them.

I really can't think of one good reason to want to use them though. They will consume engine power, they make a lot of noise, Your tail blades and bearings have to be very good, and it puts strain on the tail box.

Here are my observations: the stock Miniature blade are the BEST tail blades for the Fury. They are semi symetrical and this works to help in the right hand turns. They do not consume as much power as a good symetrical carbon blade. The 95mm tail blades work great on everything up to 690mm and some 700mm blades. After that, you will need the 105mm tail blades. The 95 mm will stall with the bigger main blades on some maneuvers. Symetrical tail blades should be 103 or 105mm starting at the 700mm blades and up. The 15 tooth front tail pinion gear helps the stalling of the blades by speeding up the tail. You can hear the speed difference easily. This 15 tooth is the way to go.

With the new gyros, there is absolutely no reason to use the tail speed up gears in the tail box. It will not accomplish anything good. The speed up gears were developed when Wayne and Ted were hovering at 1150 rpm and needed more tail to control the yaw at those low head speeds. It was also on cut down tail blades. The new gyros are light years ahead of this old set up.

If you do still want to use the gears, use red lock on the shafts, don't tighten the smaller gear set screw too tight, it will break the gear. Check the grears every 4 flights for a while until you have convinced yourself that they will or will not work for you.

I hope this helps.

With the new open tail box is the tooth count any different? In other words does it get sped up with the new tail box?

Thanks,

Jeff
