Hello,

I am finishing building my raptor 30 V1. The mean gear is quite tight and I was wondering if I could do anything to make it less tighter. I don't see any adjustments that could be made. Do I only need to "brake it in" on the first few flights?

Thanks,

Le fou

I have never found the main gears to be tight on the Raptors.

Are you sure you have the matching right size pinion and main gear?

..and when you say tight..exactly how tight is it??

I assembled the helicopter using the parts found in the kit. I believe it is the right size. When I said that the mean gear is tight - there is a tight spot where it is more difficult to rotate the rotor - I am sure that this will give me vibrations and I was wondering if this will go away after a few flights.

Thanks,

You should be able to spin the main gear (in the freewheel direction) and it should spin very freely. There is no backlash adjustment on the smaller Raptors so something is binding. I just helped a guy where his main gear was very tight and it wound up being a washer installed under the fan(should be no washer) was causing the clutch bell to bind up, which in turn caused the main gear to be tight. Try loosening all 8 of the engine mounting bolts and see if it gets loose. Drop the engine out the bottom and see if the gear train frees up. If so, then you know it relates to the engine mounting. Let me know what you find.....

it is probably caused by a high spot on your liner or misalignment of clutch. Tight gears usually happens throughout the whole revolution of the gear.

Gidday

You should be able to feed a ciggarette paper through the gears easily, I aggree with the others about the clutch region slowing up the main gear.

Thank you for your many responses.
I dropped the engine and the mean gear still has a tight spot. I am guessing that this is normal and that it will go away. Is this a wrong assumption? When I put the engine back on the raptor, the main gear is slightly tighter but nothing dramatically different.

Thanks,
