I'm currently flying the Zoom with a razor V2 motor and am in need of more power. I would like to go with a HV setup, however it seems people are having problems with the motors burning up. The motor I'm considering is the 400F brushless outrunner from Just go fly.com on 5 series lipoly. Some of the specs are: kv of 2250, 46 grams, Shaft dia 2.3 mm, and cost $50.00. Please respond if you have treid this motor as a HV setup or if you think it will work.

Their heli motor is 400DH. The KV is rated at 3500 but it's under rated and is MUch more powerfull.
This is a great motor and a great motor for the money also.
There's alot of stuff posted on this motor.
Read my post 400DH+TP2100=Amazing. It has my thoughts on the motor

Yeah, I've heard good things about the 400DH and have heard good things about HV setups. Thats why I was thinking about the 400F on 5series. Do you think the 400dh on 3series would be stronger than the 400f on 5series.

My only expierience is with the 400DH But I would talk with Vinnie at JGF and I'm sure he'll tell you just what you want to know. They respond to emails sometimes within minutes! Tell them what you want ,,they won't give you any BS.

Been on the web site, emailed them, and from what I gather they claim its been tested at higher voltage but unsure how successful it maybe.

Using higher voltage on a motor increases the efficiency of the motor, but this assumes you maintain the same wattage. Most that increase voltage will also drive higher watts and increase RPM of the motor. So if this is true someone who moves from 2S to 3S should get longer run times. They will - if they run at the same RPM as the 2S was able to achieve, but human nature is to trade off that top end for higher performance.

It sounds like the plan is to push the 400F with 18.5 volts and higher amps to get higher RPM. I think a 4S would be close to the limit, and unfortunately my power supply only goes upto 15 volts, but Hugh could test a 400F at 18.5 volts if you guys really want an answer. I would not recommend pushing high amps through at high volts though.

Setting up your Heli is a series of gives and takes. In this case your getting more power, but adding more weight. So to offset the weight you go to LiPo's and lower the capacity of the battery to reduce weight. So pushing a 2250 KV motor higher than designed to get higher RPM is not really the best way of going. And although 14.8 volts is within spec of these motors - 18.5 does exceed the spec.

Hold on a couple weeks for a new 3000KV motor which should kick some butt and be a happy medium of efficiency and power. I have not tested it on the Zoom yet, so stay tuned.
