I'm on my 3 rd tank of fuel on my new Raptor 50 and I have sheared the bolts holding the clutch to the fan twice. Once just as I was landing and today after a couple of loops so hearing the engine start to scream I brought it in without damage

Consrtuction went staight forward but when I first ran the engine up and before the blades hit 1500-1600 rpm the heli sat on the ground shaking its self to bits. Only when the blades reached an acceptable RPM did the shaking stop.

Any ideas out there ....have I a bent crank shaft, out of balance fan etc etc.

Something like this is a little hard to say without looking at it, but here are some things to check.

Setup is everything... so that is something you'll want to go through.. make sure all you're linages are good to go... there shouldn't be any slop because this is a pretty new heli, but they shouldn't be really tight either... they should move quite freely on the balls when they're hooked up.

Make sure you have all you're pitches set up correctly.
+-9 for collective --- +-7 for aleirons and elevators

One thing I would try first though.. bump you're throttle curve up a little... Raptors do get the shakes from time to time if the head speed is either way to high or way to low for what you're doing. I'm guessing that you are just doing some hovering and maybe some figure eights.

I'd set it up so you have about 1750 to 1850 on the head. Try that first... that may be all you need to do to get rid of the shakes.

Let us know how it goes

did you balance the main blades?

Most raptors get the shakes at low rpm's

The two bolts that hold the clutch on can sometimes be too long. The bolt bottoms out in the fan but doesn't really clamp the clutch down like it should. I've had this happen to me also and the general fix is to shorted the bolts by a thread or two with a grinder or belt sander and reinstall.
There is a certain resonance that you pass through on spool up that will cause the heli to shake. Try not to linger there while on the ground. Of course, that still is slightly subjective, as to how much is too much or if you still have something else wrong. I had a loose head block on a 30V1 that shook itself like crazy on spool up. Changed the head and problem solved. Is the spindle greased?
Like the previous post said, go through and recheck everything, and get back to us......

There was another post on this just recently to which I replied in more detail. Check out this post and my reply which references another link to a previous post on this subject:

Guys

Blades were straight out of the bag MS Carbon so I don't suspect balance an issue.

I did use long bolts when i screwed it down but there was no gap at the top of the thread

Spoke to BobJ from Skyline today whom I bought the heli and he asked me to send the bits in for inspection so when he has a look I will probably opt for the alloy fan upgrade and see if that helps. Its the first time he has heard of this happening

The OEM fan provides plenty of cooling. If?? the bolts are too long I like " tailrotordave" would shorten the bolts a little bit or put a washer under the head of each of the bolts that hold the clutch to the fan hub.

Just something you might want to consider.

Ali Fan upgrade
If you do fit the TT metal fan you have to use a significantly shorter bolt as the metal fan has at least 3 mm less thread. I sheared two bolts trying to tighten down the clutch b4 i learnt this

is there any play on the main shaft ?when you pull at the top there should be no up/down movement...not even 0.1mm?if this is so re-fasten your shaft holding collar thats just above your top main shaft bearing. The same vibrations was found on my caliber ...the re fixing sorted it very well...(i know the mechanics of the raptor 50 as im currently building one)

Just thought I'd share this. A friend of mine got a shaken tail when his rappy 30 was still on the ground, he later found that his tail hub was bent.
