I bought this heli used and it came with a tail case. When I pull and push on the tail shaft, there is about a 1/2 mm of play. I tried flying her this morning and tail was acting erratic. Could this minor slop cause erratic operation of the tail?

Here are a few pics at this link: tail case pics

BTW this is on a raptor 50 v2...I have another Raptor 50v2 with a stock tail case and there is no slop at all!

Thanks in advance,

Josh

You should upgrade the QWW tailcase and install an original Raptor plastic one instead.
The QWW will fail in a few gallons anyway.

try taking the tail apart and checking the red pullly. the pully is 2 pieces, the cap on the pully can easily be put on backwards creating the play. its happened to me when building my first raptor. if you need more info just pm me.

What red pully...this is not a stock machine?

And why do you think the tail will fail after a few gallons...If it is maintened properly, should'nt it be fine? Or is there another issue with the QWW tail. Hell, I don't even know if it's a QWW tail in the first place!

Sometimes people buy QWW parts thinking they are the same as QUK parts and, sadly, they are not. Quick UK is an outstanding manufacturer, whereas, QWW is not.............The stock plastic Raptor tailcase will be an upgrade. One that will last the life of the heli.

From what I understand, with the above mentioned tail, you will need plenty of "Toilet Paper"!

Having a few mm play on the tail would be pretty drastic for me. I would try and take that out soonest, as the gyro won't really like it. Quick worlwide tail units seem to have quite a reputation on here! I personally would stick to the standard. It does it's job, and isn't sloppy!..

It could be worse -- this could be a Head case!

That's not a full QWW tail either. The pitch slider is off a stock raptor and the pitch fork is the normal metal upgrade one. The QWW brass piece is longer and there is a big nut on the end of it as the pitch fork doesn't screw onto the brass bit.

If the slider is nice and smooth on the shaft then I'd just stick in a shim in somewhere convenient to take out the slop and leave it be.

tried shimming it with a washer, but i guess it was the swrong size because it worked fine for about one minute and then i felt somthing was wrong, so upon inspection I noticed that the tail was now binding the whole transmission. Out went the washer. And I'm going with a stock tail. Anyone know if these bearings will fit the stock case?
