hmmm, which brand fuse is it and are you sure your 50 is a 50 out of the box? or is it a 30 fitted with a 50?? (sometimes that is the case if you bought it used. you can get a longer boom and belt but it takes a little research to see which will fit. not sure who makes belts and booms that are longer. Dr. Tim has mentioned this b4. Hello Dr. Tim!!!!

Agreed........

What size are your blades? If they are only 550's then you are flying a modified 30 size ship. Most of the 50's on the market should have long enough booms to make the distance on your fuse. 4 inches sounds awfully short....are you sure it's a 50 size fuse?

You should still be able to purchase a 50 conversion kit for your heli so as to make the boom and tail belt longer, before doing that though make sure your fuse is a 50 and not a 60 size fuse.

Thanks for the replys
I bought the rappy new and it is the full spec 50 v2 with 600mm blades.
The fuse I bought second hand and don`t know the brand. I can cut the tail and fit the mechs but it might look a bit funny....................

Thats why I think it`s a 60 size..........ebay ? should know better,

What make of fuse is it??
I got a 60 size long ranger fuse with a raptor 50 in it but it had to have a longer than 50 size boom and belt made to fit in it!! But it flies great and it woudl auto a little better with some 660's or 690's on it!!!

Since you have a Raptor 50 I believe you can buy a Raptor 60 boom and belt. The reason I say this is that the R 50 tail rotor gear box is the same as the R 60. I believe the pully on the tail output shaft is the same is well so you shouldn't have a problem with tail rotor gear ratios.

Buying the R 60 boom and belt will solve your woes and keep you from having to cut your boom down. Using 15-20% nitro with a good pipe or muffler should yield good enough power to haul the bigger fuse around.

Another engine option is to look the West Eurotech engine and Weston pipe combination. On 5-15% percent nitro fuel these engines put out great power.

Isn't the R60 (well at least my v2 is) a shaft drive to the tail?

yes, the raptor 60 is a shaft driven tail and a larger diameter tail boom. it is possible that the fuse you have is a 60. some pics would help if you can provide them. anyway, pm Dr. Tim. he has info on getting the belts that will fit for a longer boom.

True, it is a shaft driven tail on the 60. Where I was getting the idea about the belt was a few articles back, (either in Rotory or Model Helicopter World ) someone did a belt conversion. If I can find the article I'll let you know the date.

The fuse you have i dont think is a funky, i just got mine in the mail today and my hole front comes off to put the mechs in, iam putting in my gohbee machs that are the same as the raptors and it fits like a glove with enough room to go to full neg 9 pitch if needed, you should have no trouble fitting the mechs in the fuse.

Hey I didn't ask for this fetish.!!!But I'am sure paying for it....

looks like the old GMP jet ranger fuse for the cobra. gonna be tough getting that rappy in there but i fitted a nexus in one of those for my first sheriff's heli.

the shaft driven tail on the nexus made it easy to fit a longer boom and made it easy to remove the doors since that separation line like the funkey fuses, didnt pass thru the doorway.
i can see that this project will be a tad of a tuffy. the boom on the rapy will have to be taken off from the mechs end and reinstalled once the mechs are in, not an easy task. it was tough enough with the nexus. an option is making the doghouse access panels realy open as well as the bagahe door on the right side, this will make accessing thing easier or, you could go with a hawk with a 50.
those fuses wire sized in a way that they were smaller than a 60 but bigger than a 30. good luck to ya man!
