Alright , i have 4 9151 sevos that im going to put in my 28% extra but... I need metal gears what other servo gears will work in this servo?
i would like to keep the same specs or more torque if anything I know it has been done if the case is the same... Someone help im scared to install them without metal gears (flutter= stripped nylon gears = bad crash) if you no what i mean. If its not possible they may not go in it.
Ive seen it done i just dont know what will fit or work and thatsalot of $$$$ to buy alot of trial gears that wont fit.

Even metal gear servos have one nylon gear as a safety net.

If it's really a concern to you, consider buying new servos. In particular, look at the 6v capable servos. They have a lot more torque and speed than the 4.8v version, and depending on what you get, tend to be cheaper.

9206s are good Giant Scale servos. They aren't digital but work very well. For the rudder on your bird, try an 8611 or Futaba 9152 - very powerful servos.

For what it's worth, I am using nylon gear servos on my Midwest Extra 27% with a 50cc gasser without problems.

Those servos have very strong geartrains, but here at some survival tips:

1. ZERO linkage slop. Flutter is what often eats the gears out, not load pe se.

2. Little or no control surface gap.

3. Smallest arm on the servo you can tolerate to achieve desired throw. This is no place for big arms and compressed ATV's.

4. Within reason and again given enough throw, use a fairly large horn on your control surface. The combo of a long horn here and a small one on the servo creates the most rigid control loop.
