401

501 is older... you could use a 502 however...

The 502 is basically a 401 with a screen, same chip in it. The 502 also allows you alter certain other aspects whereas with the 401 you can only control, delay and limit. A guy I know flies the 502 and he says it flies better than a 401. Not sure what the price difference is but I'd go for a 601 over a 502 and have done with it.

The 601 is a 502 with a different servo...

A 502 can be made into a 601 that will work with cheaper servos...

401 502
If you dont want to go to the 601 then go for the 502. The sceen and ability to change certain parameters gives you greater flexibility. The 601 which Drunk Monk flies with is excellent. But I have had no problems with the 502 using either a 9253 or 9254.
Galifrey I am sure there has been chat over the years re the differences could you be a little more specific please re the differences between the 601 and the 502. As I understood the 502 had a better chip in it but the 601 programming was superior. I may be wrong so I await your coments.
cheers

I am using a 502 gyro and it is really good. I got it in preference to the 401. There is only a £20 difference which is $37.

The 502 is made on the same production line as the 601 and has the same components as the 601 bar a couple of surface mount resistors I believe...

Adding those makes the gyro boot up displaying 601 and also allows you to adjust the frame rate etc to use not only the 9251 but the 9253/4 as well...

Thanks Galifrey and Drunk Monk read the article with great interest.
Sorry for moving the subject off the original question. So may be we should go back to it.
Simple for me the extra money spent on the 502 is well worth it purely as I said originally for the flexibility of being able to set the parameters. I actually still have a 501 and it works perfectly but why buy something out of date if you could still get hold of one!. There appears to have been some issues on locking out with the 401. I have never experienced this with a 502 so if its the same hardware bar the screen may be the 502 is susceptible to this as well. Oops I am taking us off in another direction perhaps I should pose a new question
