Physicians:

a. The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
b. Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
c. Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171. (Statistics courtesy of
U.S. Dept. of HHS)
Guns:
a. The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000.
b. The number of accidental gun deaths per year (all age groups) is 1,500.
c. The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.000188.
Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."
FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand.

(out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.)

No, I think the point here is that we should be more attentive to worry about things which are actually problems, and not those which are not . . .

Flawed thinking, Cool reasoning for sure but shouldn't it be a comparison between how many people have access to guns: 80.000.000. and how many people have access to doctors, which would be the entire population of the USA? That's a sum far larger than 80 million.

I'm not disagreeing with gun ownership, rights to bear arms, hunting etc... No issue there, just from a statistical stand point it's not a proper comparison.

Not trying to be a party pooper, just don't want someone to repeat this and look dumb to someone who catches this flaw. Sure it makes a neat statistic but keep in mind that 60% of all statistics are made up.

I wonder how many accidental car deaths a year in the US ??

Wonder no more: http://www.disastercenter.com/cdc/

There are a ton of fun statistics there, like stats on deaths resulting from Malignant neoplasms of urinary organs.

Yes, fun for the whole family, all you need is a net connection.

Considering that the human body is isanely complex and we still don't understand 100% how it works and how to cure things completely, I don't think that would be viable. I guess you could look at it half empty or half full, the doctors accidentally kill 120,000 people(not sure if true or not), but what about the rest of the people that they saved? Probably would be a lot a lot a lot. I know they saved my sister from Retinoblastoma, but if they couldn't I don't think I would've blamed the docs.

Lot's of us would not blame the doctors, but many do. It's very common for family to find fault with the doctor in the case of a death.

I would be interested in how many were elective surgery, you know, where your perfectly healthy and go in for a routine proceedure you choose to have but wasn't required. IE: cosmetic surgery.

If these are lifetime smoking cancer patients then perhaps the doctor isn't to blame.

Unless we know we can't say for sure but I would bet in every case they are not there because of the doctors marketing campaign.

No doubt, too many Doctors are blamed and sued in this world. Most doctors I have known are outstanding, concerned people. But guess what? Saving someones life on an operating table isnt EASY!!! Sometimes the person is going to die, regardless.

Also, legal gun owners are attacked far too much for what owners of illegal firearms do. I say that any violent crime carried out with an illegal firearm, regardless if a fire was shot or not, that a minimum 10 year sentence should be tacked on. It is insane to keep attacking legal gun owners, when in reality it is the thiefs/thugs that are causing all of the problem.

Lets bring back organized city militias made up of law abiding citizens to help out our police in their heavy burden. What else can we do???? Add more gun laws that dont do anything but scare legal gun owners and make the criminals laugh!

Removing guns from me or 99% of legal gun owners will decrease crime by exactly 0%. In fact, over time, crime would increase due to the imbalance of guns now in criminals hands vs guns in citizens hands.

Here Here!! You hit the nail on the head!! Right on. I am a law abiding citizen and own a gun, yet why do they try to make me feel like I'm a bad person just because I own a gun.

I think that problem is that we will pay a sports player millions to entertian us but pay a doctor less to save our lives!!!!

So no need to rag on doctors.

Just my two cents.

I think the saddest thing about doctors is how quick people jump to sue them...

No wonder they dont want to let women have natural childbirth...

The statistics put out by the left ie: Handgun Control Inc (Brady's), The million mom group, etc. are far more skewed than any other statistic out there. For example they put in deaths by firearm even if it was a justified shooting by either police or private citizen. They include suicides, which is crazy to me....I work as a paramedic and I have seen more suicides by hanging, overdose, vehicle accident etc, far and above by firearm. I also see that sleepy drivers kill mor people than drunks and/or firearms.

I too am a law abiding gun owner. Most of my family is or was a peace officer including my sister, brother and dad. I have been raised around firearms, I own and use them. Aside from basic safety, my dad taught me that a great deal of responsibility comes with carrying a gun, this after receiving a CCW in Kailfornia at the age of 21. I have never had to use it, hope I never do, but if I do it will be justified. MY children are now another generation that will be raised with that same respect.

Florida's got that. Pull a gun in the commission of a crime, automatic 10 years, pull the trigger, automatic 20 years, shoot somebody guaranteed 25-life whether they live or die.

I have to agree it's insane how sue happy our society is, especially when it comes to doctors. Lose a toe, you don't deserve a million dollars. It's just a toe.

All for gun ownership, if I wasn't poor I would have a nice Sig. Ah well.
