OK, on my Hawk, after the last "crash" I looked at my setup closer. Found that at 0 pitch on the main blades I was close to 3/4 of the way up the anti-rotation bracket. This is with all pushrods adjusted to the lengths in the manual. This means that I have less forward cyclic, especially with a higher collective.

So, I went to a new radio "model" and zeroed out everything. Then set the bird up so that at 50% collective the swash was level and in the middle of the up / down range of the anti-rotation bracket. Had to shorten the collective pushrod a bit.

However, at this point the blades have about a -5 pitch. So, my question is which pushrods do I shorten (lengthen?) so get he pitch set to zero at this point? Ran out of time last night so didn't have time to figure out. But, it is either the short ones going to the feathering shaft or the longer ones (I think the longer ones - yes)?

Thanks;

There's two rods going to each pitch arm at each end of the Bell-Hiller mixer (a short rod and a long rod). Both rods on each pitch arm should be lengthened so that at zero pitch the mixer arm is level.

Modify the setup for 3D
In order to get full range on collective, I ended up fitting the anti-rotation brace higher up on the support bracket. Instead of aligning the three holes on the slotted brace with the ones on the support bracket, and using the screw in the middle hole, leave the upper stamped guide off and use the screw in the lower hole.

Several people at my field have their Falcons and Hawks modified like this for 3D and it takes care of your problem.

Don,

Double check that the collective aluminum lever didn't get bent during the crash. They bend easily and might cause the situation you are discribing. The good news is, they are easy to bend back into shape, so if that is your problem, don't try to adjust it out with the rods.

The government cannot give you anything without first taking it from someone else.

Nope, not bent. I went back to the drawing board and started stuff over again. Had everything level and made sure I could get enough collective in both directions (-11 to +11) and went from there. I can now run at -11 to +11 and give full foward and backward cyclic on top without any binding. I don't have my pitch curves set this way though as it is unlikely that the OS32 would handle it, especially with Woodies.

Normal pitch is -3, 5, 9. Idle 1 is the same but with the throttle never going below 50% so that head speed is always kept up. Idle 2 is -9, 0, +9 in case I ever get there. Hold is -5, 5, +11 (or 12 whatever max is).

Haven't had a chance to fly it this way yet, need a bit better weather.

Check binding on cyclic for full down/right, down/left, up/right and up/left, while on full positive and full negative collectives.

Keep an eye on the elevator and aileron bellcranks since you can see them flexing on a bind.

Also, make sure you have at least 5.5 degrees of cyclic on full input for roll and pitch.
