I've had my shogun for a week now... First heli.
Finally, today I got into some real hovers. After 2 sets of blades and tail pinions...

Anyhow, now after 30s of hover, the heli starts wobbling like a spin top. It gets so out of control that I have to put the heli down.

Anybody experienced that?

I have 2 theories:
- one of the blade strikes bent the main shaft. When I look at the heli from the top at max head speed before liftoff, the shaft seems fine.
- head speed too low. I tried increasing the hovering head speed by decreasing pitch & increasing throttle & it looked like i helped a little.

Thanks for your help!

hi
i had a moth i was setting up do the same thing , it starts fine but starts to oscillate and gets worse and worse , within a few seconds it was set it down or crash , , check the main blade bolts , are they even and are they tight enough , you can see if the main shaft is straight by taking it out and rolling it on a flat piece of glass and the spindle might be bent too , same test , roll it on glass , good luck and keep us posted

This is a rotor head dampening problem.

On larger models, you can change the dampening to be harder or softer.

It is set on the shogun by a couple of rubber o-rings on the head spindle. Not much you can do to harden or soften the dampening.

So...... That leaves you one thing to do.

Change the headspeed, either faster or slower, and this problem will go away.

also check your main blades for correct tension. If they are loose it will cause the ship to wobble.

Thanks guys!

I'll give the head speed a try & then start dissasembling it if it does not work

I'll report over the weekend.

vinrx7, you're right about the zoom not being an ideal first heli. But, I have flown 7-10 yrs rc planes & wanted something I could use outdoors.

It would have been ideal if there was someone around to help me trim it, but you guys will have to do! I am using FMS & realflight extensively - if only I had a zoom model on one of those!

i too used to fly planks before i got into heli's. It helps when it comes time for forward flight.
Let us know what happens with the wobble.

everything's square & I tried uping the rpm - solved the problem!

For people who might have this problem too, the issue was solved by:
- Loosening the blades. The like90 are a little thick for the holder, so I had to sand the root down a little
- Increased hover throttle by 2-5%.

Now I have a little tail wag, but fixes are documented all over!

I can now hover within a 10ft cube. Need to work on narrowing that!

Thanks for your help! Especially vinrx7
