I got a question for those folks doing the tail conversion on the EVO.

I measured the distance between the tail blade mounting bolts on the EVO and Freya.

The EVO was 70mm and the Freya was 86mm.

So that would add 13mm per side.

What size tail blades are you all using on the EVO after the conversion?

I am useing the 90mm carbons that came with the EVO. There are some rotortechs 92mm which are pretty good also.

You all are using fairly big tail blades with the freya tail grips on the EVO.

I use 95mm V blades on my Xspec and 92mm blades on the stock EVO tail.

I was thinking with the larger freya tail rotor hub maybe poeple would be using 85mm tail blades.

All I can say is you all have probably got great tail control.

Do you have any problems with the clearance between the tail and main blades?

I was thinking about upgrading the EVO to the Freya tail parts.

The Freya tail grips are just a better design.

Vol77,

Why not just get 105mm blades mounted on EVO tail. The difference bet/ EVO and Freya hub is 13mm per side. Some people here commented on using 95mm blades w/o any problem. w/95mm blades and Freya tail, it essentially the same size as EVO hub and 105mm. Don't worry about the hub would not take the stresses, EVO tail has trust bearing to take all the load.

Any thought, comment, suggestion? or does anybody try it before?

The EVO tail hasn't gave me any problems but I like the design of the Freya tail with the two radial bearings and one thrust bearing per side.

I think the Freya tail on the EVO would give you more precise tail control.

Vol77,

w/os 50 hyper, Hat544, mah blades and everything standard that comes with the kit, I felt that EVO tail is precise enough. Even GY501 and 601 handle standard vertical fins without any cut out on fast backward flight. I just felt that piro rate could be a little more faster with speed up gear and-or larger t/r disk.

Remember, when the tail spins 9800 rpm, the slack will act as damper with feedback by the geometry on the linkage (delta dampening) But who's care? those feedback is so minim that gyro would hyjack the whole tail control dampening operation.
