I am really moving slower than I had hoped when I first got my Hirobo Sceadu 30, but now that I have it completed and have attempted to hover, I am still having some problems. When I gradually advance the throttle/cyclic the copter gets light on it's skids, then the copter spins aound in circles. I tried adjusting the trim on my radio to combat the rear rotor and attempt to stabilize the bird, but it has not helped. Any Suggestions will be greatly apprieciated. -Brian P.S. I am using a JR 8103 radio, with a Futaba 401 gyro (I think)

Look at this post here .

The post is about a Raptor having the same problem but I think you can get a general idea as of what to check.

When you first start to get light on the gear try giving it a little left rudder and see if you can make it move left, Then do the same right. If you can make it work for you in both directions you can start triming with the avc off. Try this and you'll get it.

Check that your gyro direction is not reversed

The gyro 401 from Futaba has a special setup for normal flight or "hold" setup. Did you review this?
Do you want more explanation in regards the 401 setup if you don't have the manual?
Please comment

Hey Sarge,

Which direction does the nose of the heli go when it starts spinning?

The first thing I would check is to make sure that the tail rotor is spinning the the right direction. The blades should rotate up into the rotor wash of main blades. Also (this may seem a little elementary, but it happens) check to make sure the blades are mounted correctly; leading edge of the blade is actually leading.

Next make sure that you have the proper pitch on the tail blades when the stick is neutral. You should have roughly 6-7 degrees of left thrust at the tail (nose right). That is, the leading edge of the blades are pointing to the left. Where the hover pitch ends up may vary a little when trimmed out, but 6-7 degrees is a good starting point. Also make sure the servo arm is at 90 degrees to the pushrod at neutral.

As others have suggested, make sure the gyro reversing is set properly. Move the tail with your hand and verify that the gyro moves the leading edge of the blades in the opposite direction that you moved the tail. Also, the leading edge should move in the opposite direction of the transmitter stick.

Once you've check these things, you can start up the heli and verify that you have tail control as the heli gets light as Sweatum suggested. One thing I would add, remember that right stick makes the nose move right, not the tail. I had a guy that's been flying planks for years tell me the heli was turning the wrong way when he first started on heli's.

Note that all of the directions that I have mentioned are as viewed from behind the heli.

I hope that this has been of some help. Let us know how you make out.

Thanks for all your suggestions
I just wanted to drop a quick line and let you all know that I have not forgotten about your suggestions, I just haven't had the weather or time off or combination of both to get out an attempt it again. As soon as I do I will report my progress. BTY: anxiously waiting for the UPS man to deliver my G2 simulator, so I can get proficient no matter what the weather. Thanks again -Sarge

Quick way to check for correct gyro direction:

Turn the radio on, move the rudder stick to give full RIGHT rudder. Notice which way the servo moves. Return the stick to center.

Pick up the heli, turn the nose to the LEFT. Watch the tail rotor servo. It should move the same direction it did when you gave the heli right rudder. If it moves in the other direction, the gyro is set up backwards and you need to flip the reverse switch on the gyro.

Besides the gyro direction, you may like to check the Gyro sens in your radio and increase the percentage to hold the tail more firmly....... just my 2 cents.
