I've got a friend who swears the YS 61 is a better performer than the OS 70... more power, better fuel economy, etc.

Since I've flown neither but am considering a purchase of one of them I thought I'd ask the forumn. Anybody out there flown both of these engines? I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

I haven't flown the ys 61, but

os 70

Bigger displacement more power
Never had a consistancy problem
Always started

Pistons sometimes break

ys 61

works off crankcase pressure and regulator so it will be extremely consistant

smaller displacement so less power.

I can't compare the two as I only have experience with the YS 61 STII. But, I can tell you that this engine, on 30% nitro fuel, is one awesome performer. The only mod I have is the dual plug head, otherwise it's stock, with a KSJ muffler. I have countless gallons of fuel through it ... have had it for four years and the last time I flew it, it performed the best I've ever experienced it.

I have heard that you can put a 150 gallons, or more, through it before it's shot.

The only down side, if there is any, is that it runs significantly better on 30% nitro fuel, than on anything less. It is an impressive engine.

Hope this helps.

John
