This might seem an odd question but I calibrate my gyro as per the manual and initially it seems OK but then after a few flights the tail stop is not holding, eg after 540s etc. when I give he tail the command to stop it goes past the stop point and I need to give opposite rudder to return the tail to the correct position. Yet initially, after first setting the gyro up it worked fine and stopped normally. This has happened twice now with the same gyro. I live at 2,800m above sea level, and travel regularly to the coast (sea level) for most of my flying. Does anyone know if this constant change in altitude (or temperature??) could have any effect on the electronic compnents of the gyro? Or any other ideas as to what might be happening?

I am sure you are aware that the revo and all trims should be off/centered. Do not adjust the trim during flight. Some transmitters can be trimmed in each flight mode so make sure the rudder trim is neutral in normal, stunt 1, stunt 2 and throttle hold. That fixed mine.

I fly at roughly 1800m above sea level and no problems. I would make sure you have very smoooooooth linkage and no slop. I fly powerful machines and have noticed similar response with wimpy tail blades. Try very stiff, wide chord tail blades(NHPs are my favorite). It will make a difference. I follow the Todd Bennet(?) 601 setup procedure.

Futaba 601 and altitude
Thank you both for your replies. Just to clarify things a little more, its on a Futura SE with OS91 using 700NHP main blades and 105 NHP tails. Revo is inhibited, all tail trims are at zero all sub trims at zero, no mixes whatsoever. Linkage is perfectly free so these these things don't seem to be an issue. I would like to set up the gyro again using Todd's settings, and then see whether it continues to work. TurboStew, do you know where I can find these? Many thanks, Jim.

Jim
