I have been flying my camera ship for some time now. Until recently most shoots have been limited to 400 ft altitude max and maybe 500 feet out. Wanted to maintain an autorotation escape route.
With all the extra metal and video feed transmitter, range has not been te$ted. More shoots will involve going out over the ocean and a loss of signal will be a total loss of airborn equipment.
The modern radios are very good, JR, Futaba, etc. but the video down links are still a bit of concern. I am using a Supercircuits 900mhz unit. Has been flawless for 4 years now and purchased a newer version of the same TX for backup.
I was originally running a fail-safe activated switched power source to the ATV TX but removed it as being unneccessary?? Has anyone encountered range issues with the camera ships. Lots of money to risk if unsure.
