my friend hit a telephone pole,,, NO, not me !! my best bud,,, it was raining and he hit the brake to hard and he slid into the pole,,, so the highway department sent 3 guys down to look at it, most likely he wont have to pay for a new pole,,,

but he has to pay the state $700 for the 3 guy's to take 3 minutes to look at the pole, $700 just to look at the pole, what a bunch of crap !!

Better to pay $700.00 to inspect the pole, then to pay $7,000.00 for a new pole.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Do you think these government workers actually got off their ass to inspect it? They probably just looked at it and confirmed it wasn't knocked over. Ahh... government jobs. Good pay, great benefits, little work, no accountability.

Why wouldn't he have to pay? Curious.

Yes it was an accident, and no, he did not do it on purpose. But he was probably going to fast. If he wasn't the basic speed law is no faster than it is safe for given circumstances.

And if your friend doesn't pay for his mishap, then who should pay?

While I feel sorry for him, he's lucky he's not repairing a pole. A friend of mine out here did the same thing. He not only had to pay for the pole, but received a ticket for the unsfe speed given the curcumstanes. So, a moving violation, insurance increases to fix his vehicle (7000k on the Hyundai) and repair the pole.

Your friend got lucky.

Best Regards, Dario

my friend said the price of the pole is $2700, not adding the man hours to install it.

I remeber more, he said he did not have collision on his car, so his insurance company said if he paid the $700 his insurance would not go up, because they would not have to pay-out.

Yeah, situations like this are generally one big headache and financial burden. We don't realize the costs until it happens to us or happens to someone we know (who shares the story).

Poles, fire hydrants, street signs, bushes in people's yards, etc... you need to get the hell out of there before you get caught!! The gas pedal is the one on the right dude -- now STEP ON IT!!

Yep, that's the kind of mentality the local drunk 17 yr olds have when they do a yard job and cut up peoples lawns. Funny thing though, sooner or later they manage to screw themselves. I had a habitual one try out my front lawn about once a month for a year. He finally misjudged and took the whole side off his car as he went airborn through the adjoining woods.

I dunno . . . I'm on the fence with this one.

Did the pole actually come out of nowhere and jump in front of his car as they statistically do or did he really hit it?

Do you happen to know anyone in the military? If so run this idea past them and get back with me. Please.
