Due to a charger problem I am in need of a JR PCM 10SX battery box. This is the black plastic box located under the battery door, attached by four screws from the bottom of the transmitter and two screws through the back of the box. Pigtail to the board.

I called JR and they will not send me one. They say I have to send them the Transmitter. (Liability problem according to the service rep?).

If anybody has one available please contact me. I can provide pictures of the old unit as both earlier and later models might fit. I also need a new battery door, but I can order that from Horizon.

Thank you - Al

Sometimes you need to be very forceful with Horizon. Call and tell them again that you want the battery box. There is no reason why they shouldn't sell it to you. Maybe you need to talk to someone else at Horizon.

I've heard of a few people taking this approach with them. Give it another try and don't take no for an answer.

We'll give it a try Jeff.....

I have sent an E-Mail to Horizon redefining my problem and asking them to reassess their position. I'll let you know what I get back.

Well, as I previously stated, here is my follow up E-Mail to Horizon and their response.

This is the E-Mail I sent to Horizon…………….

I recently contacted your service department to purchase a replacement battery box for my JR PCM 10 SX transmitter. I was informed that although you had them available, you would not sell me one, and that I would have to send my transmitter in for service. I was quoted that it was a liability problem.

I do not understand. Replacement of the battery box merely requires removal of the back (A user function) and the removal of 6 screws which are in no way connected to the boards and circuits of the transmitter. The unit then plugs into the board with no soldering required.

You will sell me a receiver case. An item which normally is only damaged in a crash or incident which applies significant forces to the circuitry.

You will sell me servo gears, which if replaced without lubrication and assurance that the broken pieces are removed may cause servo lockup.

You will even sell me a servo case set. The bottom half of which most users cannot successfully replace. (Why don’t you just sell servo case tops which is what most people need)

But…. you won’t sell me a transmitter battery box.

Please reevaluate your policy. The loss time and potential damage in transit between our locations leaves me no choice but to try to find either a non-JR replacement, or jerry rig a resolution which is now a foam wrap around the battery placed in the opening.

Your understanding reply is awaited

Here is the response I received…………..

Thank you for your recent email. We have policies and guidelines set in place for the radios and other products. Certain parts are not available for the consumer to purchase and put on their radios. We have certified JR techs that work on the radios and are trained to perform tasks that most consumers do not know how to do. The FCC has certain guidelines and regulations about who works on radios. I am sorry if this frustrates and upsets you, but it is the guidelines that we have set forth to protect ourselves and you as the consumer. If you have anymore questions or would like to discuss this with our product support techs, please feel free to contact them at......................

Hi,

I tried to buy a battery door for my 10X from them and they told me the same thing, that i would have to send my transmitter to them.I told them that i could install the battery door and they said they would not sell it to me because of liabality. I would have to pay shipping there and back. Also they said it would take from 1 to 2 hours of labor. The end result would be about 100.00 dollars and down time. I just called Radio South and ordered a new battery door from them for $8.00 with no problem. Thanks for the info ( syll35 ).

JR radio parts
Here in Canada i dont think a company (a distributor) can keeps
parts for themself , and make money over the repair ...

i think that if the part is not on warranty anymore there is no point not selling it ...

if i buy a GM car would i have to get it repair only at the dealer after its no more on warranty ??

some of my friends have Futaba radio , they have no problems getting
switchs or parts .

Tell me more
I have ordered things from them in the past. If this is how they treat people I can go somewhere else. One voice is not loud but everyone hears a group.

Did anyone see my heli??? I think it went that way!!!

Sylvain,

Can you POST the link for everyone?
I would pay more in shipping to know I support a company that will not screw me in the end.

Hi JR is the best service I have ever used, most of the time my stuff is back in less than ten days. I have sent them problems like yours and they did not even charge ,should have given them a chance. As far as price I have never had them charge me even an hour for intensive repair like replacing the touch screen. Fifteen years dealing with them and still a happy camper. And Christianflyer you can buy the battery door from Horizon as Heliguy stated so you have a credibility gap. Chris

Uh, liability my a**! JR is doing nothing more that pumping up service revenue by spewing a cloud of bulls**t. Buy the switch elsewhere, and let them know that you don't appreciate being treated like a moron . . .

Let's face it - if there were any truth to this liability crap, then auto parts stores would not sell to the public either . . .
