Utah Valley interferance
I heard from some local pilots here in UT that there was always interferance on a certain channel (in the 20's). Have any of you heli flyers in Utah Valley heard this and know which channel to avoid? Thanks

Haven't ever heard that myself, but did hear at one time that there was a higher freq. that would lock up out at the Lehi model airport.

Ch 20 Interference.
I don't know about UT but I have seen several clubs that have reported ch 20 for interference trouble. May be related to microwave towers or cell sites.

Not sure but I have a freq checker that I use and it will let you know if there are ch freq trouble in the area.

I fly in Orem with UHA on 26 and have never had a problem. I have only gone down a few times though, you might want to PM one of the more prominent club guys. If you dont know who they are PM me and I will give you some names."It's not the critic that counts......."

The heli club has a frequency checker and we have never picked up any weird signal that was strong enough to effect any one flying.
When I took the frequency scanner home, I had someone turn on 16 at night and John had someone turn on channel 11 at night. I've never seen channel 20 being a problem. I would get a scanner at some dudes hobby if you think you're having a problem in your area. More than likely it's someone else flying in a park somewhere. I don't know of any channel to avoid in Utah county.

Its true.
I know for a fact because I took my service monitor out to the field on several occasions (when I lived there)
I found that Channel 4 KUTV (I think) has an up link that often splatters channel 26 on our frequencies.
And I know that Chan 4 broadcasts off of Farnsworth that easily looks into Utah valley as well as SLC.
On some days I was seeing signal levels as high as -85 dbm that is plenty of power to cause problems in flight.
But the last time I monitored the area was summer of 2002. after that I quit flying in SLC and then moved in 2003 to northern Idaho. I still miss Utah and hope to return soon.

Must have been fixed, because I fly on channel 26, always have, and have not had an interference problem. Thanks for the info though, pretty interesting!

Not
There are no problems with channels in the 20s. The scanner would tell us if there were problems. So stop worrying about it, doesnt exist.

frequency check
I live in salt lake and have had nothing but problems with channel 28 in fact I got so many near misses that I switch to channel 54 and haven't had any glitches over the last year. I have noticed that a lot of the plankers fly in the mid to high 20's range. Hope that helps

One club I belong to in Half Moon Bay does not allow the use of Ch #20. The reason being is that it interacts with Ch 4 TV and causes 3rd level harmonic(?) inteference on another channel at the same field. The other club I fly at in Richmond has had some complaints about Ch 20 and TV Ch 4 as well causing loss of aircraft.
