The movie was probably "When Worlds Collide".

Earth is about to collide with another planet, people are building a rocketship to escape before the collision happens.

In the early scenes, one of the scientists (and obviously one of the lead characters) shows up at the place where the rocket is being readied for launch. He flies in, in a small, silver, tandem rotor heli, probably an HUP-1 or the McCullough tandem rotor heli that I believe showed up in an earlier link here.

Does this sound like the movie?

I think there is one of these at the Pima Air Museum in Tucson. As I recall, there were only three built.

nope,,, not the MC4-H30, and not that movie, it was a Navy move, they lowered 2 men from the hli to the ship, this heli did not have tail fins on the side, most likely it was a early SeaKnight, it looked just like one,,,

does anyone know if some of the first SeaKnight were piston powered ??
