upgradesi just sent an email to the company and this is what was replied.
Dear Andrew Huertas:
Thank you for contacting eMachines.
I see that you would like to know if your system could support the Radeon X700 or higher video card. In addition, you would also want to know if you could upgrade your hard drive and use Western Digital hard drives. Lastly, you need information regarding the slots for a video card and memory upgrade on your T2682 eMachines computer.
I understand your concern. However eMachines cannot recommend any 3rd party upgrades. There are several reasons for this. There are simply too many types of 3rd party upgrades for eMachines or any computer company to test in their systems, so they can then recommend them to their customers. In addition, an end user's system may already have several new 3rd party devices or software packages installed, therefore changing the system to a different configuration. This could cause a great deal of conflicts between devices and software on the system.
How upgrading works for the end user that wants to do it themselves, is that you find out what your system's specifications are, then you go shopping for the hardware or software you want to upgrade to. Once you have settled on several possibilities, you would then check on the side of the box that the software or hardware is in for the Minimum System Requirements of that product. If shopping online then these minimum system requirements should be available online as well. Now you would compare those system requirements to your systems specifications. Your system's specifications should meet or preferably exceed those requirements.
In addition, any changes or upgrades to the original configuration of the system are done so at the sole risk of you the end user. Any support for added 3rd party software or hardware will need to come from the manufacturer of that product.
Here are your system's Specifications:
CPU: Intel Celeron 2.60 GHz
Memory: DDR PC2100 DIMM (256 MB)
Power Supply: Bestec ATX-250 250 Watt
Video: Intel Extreme Graphics 3D 845GV AGP
Audio: RealTek ALC202A
Hard Drive: Western Digital 80 GB WD-800AB
Primary Optical Drive: 16X DVD / 48 X CD Samsung SD-816B
Sec. Optical Drive: 48x / 24x / 48x Samsung SW-248F
Floppy Drive: Samsung SFD-321B/LTGNQ
Modem: PCI MAC Systems MA560CI v.92 (Conexant)
Network Interface Card: RealTek 8101L 10/100 PCI
I recommend checking our parts website at http://parts.emachines.com/emachines/
for the part that you need. If you prefer, you can also give our Parts Department a call at 1-888-368-7898. They will be able to provide you with part availability and pricing.
If they do not have the part available, you may wish to consider searching online or with third party vendors for the part that you need.
With regard to the video card and memory slot, I have checked our records for your system and found that it has three PCI expansion slots installed to accommodate a video card upgrade. On the other hand, the TriGem International ImperialGV motherboard installed in your system supports the DDR memory type.
For your convenience, here are the RAM specifications of your system:
Number of RAM Slots: 2
Total RAM Capacity: 2048 MB
RAM Stick Size Limit: 1024 MB
Number of Pins: 184 pins
Your system has a 256 MB DDR PC2100 DIMM memory stick installed. However, the motherboard can support DDR PC2700 DIMM. In this regard, I would suggest purchasing a PC2100 memory module although the motherboard supports PC2700 memory modules. Mixing RAM of different speeds usually causes the system to crash frequently or not to boot up. In addition, we cannot guarantee compatibility of any memory module other than the ones we install.
Please be aware that whenever the case is removed precautions should be taken against electrostatic discharge (ESD). Make sure that the computer is off and unplugged. Please maintain contact with a grounded source, such as your computer's frame or use a grounding strap. Damage resulting from improper grounding may not be covered under the manufacturer's warranty if these precautions are not taken. Simply breaking the seal will not void the manufacturer's warranty.
It is my hope that this information will be helpful to you.
Should you require further assistance with your eMachines system, please feel free to send another message. Your comments and suggestions are welcome.
