OS 50 Hyper with Muscle pipe
I have a C.Youngblood Muscle pipe and want to run this with an OSXH50 hyper head, does anyone have experience with this particular setup?

What nitro content?

I have been using Morgans Cool Power 30%

Some say use a shim, where can I order one if needed.

Thanks,
David

Dear Jim

Why don't use 30%, use 20% ?

I'm using also coolpower 30% on Hyper.

hmmm,,, Jason WAI are you using a tuned pipe ??

although my motor did rev higher with the 30%, I did not see a gain in power with the 30%, it felt as my motor was not loaded, much like runing your car at 60 in 2st gear on a flat road, it was over-revving to much, more pitch did not help much, you can only go so far with pitch, as for now I pull 11&1/2 degrees of pitch with my Hyper and Weston T-pipe,,,

on my older OS with an oversize 60B carb (same size as the 60L) and t-pipe ran fine on 20%, then I tried 30%, within 1/2 gallon my piston had a dent on the top do to detonation,,, another thing with 30%, no-matter how rich I ran it, and no-matter how I adjusted my curves, my motor would come-on the pipe as I spooled-up and it had a screaming head speed, if I lowered my T-curve a-lot and raised my P-curve a-lot and richened my motor a-lot~~as I was hovering my motor would come on the pipe then fall off the come on the pipe and then fall off the pipe on and off on and off, so after 3,4 tanks of that I just hovered with a head speed of 1950, 4,5 tanks later my motor started to get louder and louder,,,

maybe it was my Weston pipe that made my motor react as it did to the 30%, but the guys above agree with me (use 20%),,, maybe a shim in the head would have helped my older motor ??,,,

Thanks for your kind explanation, Jim !

I'm using Funtech 50 and MP2 50Q .

are any of these a tuned pipe ? I think they might just be a muffler.

hyper
ok, lets say I use 15% with a muscle pipe, will this setup still put out more power than stock OS xh 50 engine on 30% with Muscle pipe?

Any ideas where to order the shim for this engine?

Thanks,
David

Jason,,, I the MP2Q is a tuned-pipe, but I don't know about it'a power-curve, some pipes have a wide power-curve others have a short power-curve, I can't say about the Funtech I never saw one,,,

David,,, I would think yes, because the Hyper has the larger carb,,, call Performance Specialties for the shim, sorry I don't have their phone number or their site link.

Thanks Jim.

Here is a photo of Funtech 50 muffler.

Funtech used to produce muffler for K & S Japan .

Jason,

that funtech is obviously an offspring of the KSJ muffler, without the short life span, annoying silicone coupler. This is not a tune pipe, it's a muffler.

As far as I know, the MPIIQ2 is not a tune pipe, not in the traditional sense. It is a compromise between a tune pipe and a muffler, hense the increased performance. It will definitely have a narrower range of peak performance than a standard muffler, like your funtech, but, broader than a traditional tune pipe.

MHW did a comparison of these pipes with the YS 91, in the March edition. The YS engines typically do not work well with tune pipes because of the integral fuel pump. However, they seem to have no problem with the MPII pipes.

Also, I'm not familiar with this new OS 50, but, the beauty of 30% nitro fuel is that there's an increase in the amount of synthetic oil in the fuel, to compensate for the added nitro and this is obviously a bonus for the break-in period.

In the case of my YS 61, it loves 30% far more than 20%; but, they're obviously completely different engines.

Can anyone else comment on the use of 30% nitro with the new OS50 hyper ? The manual should say something about recommended fuels.

thanks,

John

Thanks, John !

Yes, you are right ! funtech is similar to the KSJ muffler but with a more durable body than KSJ.

I'm running 30% cool power. just finished the first 20 flights .......still running the engine a bit rich about 2. 25 turn and decide to lean it a click or more flights. Power is great perhaps becuase of better cooling that hyper made.

Happy flying .......
