This is a simple connector that jumps the diode, can't be plugged in incorrectly, etc. This is NOT the poliswitch that is available to be put in place in all the Futaba radios to jump the diode.

I have obtained the poliswitch diode (#HSP78368) but I want to ensure that I install it correctly. Does it jump the diode, replace the diode or other...there are not that many choices on the board (not much on it).

Thanks in advance for the help.

Hard removal of 9Z pack
Allen:

On all of my 9z Tx packs (5 of them) a small piece of clear plastic about 50 thou thick has transferred from the base of the battery pack to the inside of the transmitter battery case. It has a very sticky adhesive and makes removal of the pack very difficult. Check the inside of the Tx around the base of the pack and see if this is causing your removal problem. Also I really don't know why all of you guys are jumping through hoops on this diode issue. I have used the staple/small piece of wire technique since 93 on 4 different 9Z's and so have all my friends who use the 9Z. I fly hundreds of flights a year and use this very simple solution to fast charging/cycling my 9Z's. The solution is a close as your stapler.

Molex Plug
I bought some 6 pin Molex plugs (size 0.100), then cut them to sections of 2 pins. Soldered the two pins on one side together. Now I've got a bunch of them. I plug it into the two sockets closest to the charging jack.

I bought the futaba part a couple years ago, it is a 5 pin unit that can be installed either way since the two pins on each end are soldered (this may not be exactly what they sell now). I always worried about losing this critical part so I made spares with the Molex plugs. I could not find 5 pin Molex plugs at Fry's electronics, but 2 pins is all you need.

If you want one, email me at SoBayHeli@aol.com

Allen, it jumps the diode.

We still STRONGLY recommend not fast charging your battery inside your 9Z. There's just too much $$ there to risk damaging should something go wrong during your fast charge.

Fast Charging 9z
Thanks for all the help and advice. I have a Sirius charger that I have been using on two 8u’s for years and have been very happy with the results. I charge after every flight so the current during charging is minimal and with the Sirius there appears to be no memory issues. I just did a discharge check on both radio’s and both exceeded three and half hours of transmit time before receiving the low battery alarm. Not bad given the age of the batteries.

Everything about flying helicopter deals with one risk or another. At this point I am more concerned about damaging the pins during the constant removal and insertion of the battery than that of having the batteries damage the 9z. However, I will check for any obstruction that may be interfering with the easy insertion and removal of the battery. If I can easily remove the battery with less risk to the pins then I will probably remove the battery during future charging. While I accept the inherent risks of heli flying I do try to minimize them. I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but I am not the dullest either

Thanks again

AMCross....need additional help.
AMCross

I hate to keep bothering you about this issue but putting the poliswitch diode (#HSP78368) across the diode disables the radio (the screen remains blank on power up). It appears that if there is a voltage present on pin five the radio is disabled. Removing the poliswitch re-enables the radio. I checked this several times and each time encountered the same problem. Can you check for a circuit change on the latest 9z WCII’s and advise?

Thanks

Allen,
My sincerest apologies. The poliswitch CAN NOT be put in line in the 9Z as the design of the board is such that it will not operate. My sincerest apologies, this was my error in misreading info we were provided and understanding it to mean all radios when it does not work in the 9Z.

No problem. Things like that can happen. I just wish I had not ordered 10. I was going to supply my local club with them...oh well I can always use them somewhere else.

Christian,

Very cute...can I have ten?

Sorry about that. :-( They can be used on all of the other radios, and come prebuilt into the 9C.

You need to create an infomercial for your ingenious and innovative device. I've never seen anything like it, I can think of dozens of uses for such a device - even perhaps "clasping" or "stamping" or "clamping" sheets of paper together. You could call it a "stamper" or "clasple" or a "paper clamp". I must have one now, can I send you some cash in the mail, or do you want me to post my credit card info right here?

Thanks
Nick
