Member Status Question
What does the 'Platinum', 'Gold', and 'Silver' member status mean on the home page and why can I not seem to click on it?

I am working on this and will introduce RR Sustaining Memberships soon. This will allow you to financially support RR and it's ongoing operation.Mark Ryder

Try to reply to the below thread...
https://rc.runryder.com/t829672p1/

A screen similar to the one below will pop up. After that it's a matter of picking a number and payment method.

Having finished contributing you will have to edit your post if you want it to saying anything other than the canned reply.

"Well, nothing bad can happen now."

So it's not a recurring credit card charge?

Recharged at any time? By who? This needs to be explained

A one time change for a 365 day membership. Looking at the image above you see a credit applied when revisiting the sustaining membership page. This allows you to bump or recharge your membership back up to a full 365 days.

I want to say thanks to all the new contributing members.

By you. RR does not have access to your PayPal payment information. Again, this is a one-time payment to RR.Mark Ryder

Part of me doesn't like the idea of "tiered" members. Personally, I want to be known as Bill the modeler. I'm not anybody other than a guy flying model helicopters. I've done it for a while and think there are times I can add to the conversation but I don't know how I feel about being a "Platinum" member.

What does it mean if someone contributes great posts but is a "wood" or "dirt" member?

Can I contribute and still be just Bill the modeler? Can we add a radio button to our profile that will hide our membership status - or would that undermine the goal of encouraging others to contribute? If everyone blocked their membership status, would anyone contribute?

If a member posts 20 times a week, will it matter if they are platinum x30 members or (new term) freeloaders?

I feel a paradigm shift."Well, nothing bad can happen now."

Bill,
I’m with you in thinking that hiding the member status would probably defeat the purpose. However, I don’t like the teared system. Alternatively, identifying the member as simply “a contributor” would do ....

It shouldn’t be anyone’s business how much I contribute....Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

Exactly!

Okay here is a compromise for the better (see screenshot). I still want to show your membership status in your profile. Thanks to all for the feedback.

If you do that then there is really no compromise, IMHOBeen there, done that and old enough to know better.....

Nice. The information is still available to those that take the time to look. But for the casual reader/poster, it's enough to know a member chipped in at some level."Well, nothing bad can happen now."
