Email and Email Notification

Email Reply to PM

RR offers the feature of replying back to PM notifications off site via your email client. When replying to PMs using your email client make sure the To: email address is NOT apache@rc.runryder.com. If it is you will receive a PM bounce message.

The correct Reply To email address would look something like the following:

pm.14133494.404804@rc.runryder.com

For the most part, email clients get the Reply To address correctly without intervention. Just type your reply and hit send. A very productive feature.

Bounced Email Notification via PM

Email notifications are sent to RR members to notify them of new Private Messages (PMs) and/or new Subscriptions. RunRyder emails will arrive in your inbox from the 'RunRyder Notification System' (apache@rc.runryder.com).

If your RunRyder notification bounces, you will receive an automated PM.

This PM should contain a bounce message, which could from you (out-of-office auto reply) or your ISP notifying you of a problem (email address or other error). The PM should also contain a copy of the RR notification message. If you auto replied to RunRyder's notification email, there is no need to take action. If your ISP bounced RunRyder's notification email, please try to understand their error message. It could be because your email address is incorrect.

To edit your RR email address, go to myHOME - Edit Profile (email address)

When apache@rc.runryder.com receives email from you or your ISP all RR notification emails stop. They resume after two weeks or when you return. If bounced PMs become annoying, then consider lengthening your PM or Topic notification email waiting periods. Keep in mind: If your computer is infected, it could be sending unsolicited messages (spam) to apache@rc.runryder.com.

There are Six Items to Consider for managing RunRyder notifications.

Just The Options

Change Your Email Address

You can change your email at myHOME, Edit Profile. After you change your email address, click Submit Modifications at the bottom of the screen. Changing your email will not affect your RunRyder member account.
Send Email to Other RR Members

To send an email to another member, locate the EMAIL link in their member profile or in any posts they've made. This will open a page that contains a form where you can enter your message. When you have finished typing your message, click the Send Email button and your message will be sent instantly. For privacy reasons, the email address of the recipient is not revealed to you during the process.

If you cannot find an email button or link for a member, it means that the member has specified that they do not wish to receive email from RR members.

Registered members are also able to send messages to other members of this forum using the private messaging system. For more information about private messaging see: HELP-FAQ - Private Messaging.
Email Limits and Blocking

The email blocking mechanism was put in place to prevent spammers from emailing RunRyder members with solicitations. The amount of emails you are allowed to send within a 24 hour period is based on a sliding scale. Newer members have a lower email sending limit than older members.

If you get blocked from sending emails, the waiting period is 24 hours. If you email again in less than 24 hours from the time you were originally blocked, you will have to wait an additional 24 hours to send RR members emails.
Email Notifications

There are Six Items to Consider to manage your RR email notifications.

Email notifications are sent to RR members to notify them of new Private Messages (PMs) and/or new Subscriptions. RunRyder emails will arrive in your inbox from the 'RR <no reply> Notification' (apache@rc.runryder.com) for subscriptions and as 'RR PM Email Reply' (pm.12345.123456@rc.runryder.com) for PMs.

By default, email notifications for new Private Messages (PMs) and/or new Subscription activity are sent five minutes since your last activity on the site. You can change the frequency of email notifications by going to myHome - Edit Options (Messaging, Subscriptions & Notification) and changing the waiting period for PM Notification, Forum Notification, and/or Topic Notification. The longer the waiting period, the less frequent an email notification will be sent.

To prevent yourself from receiving notifications about new posts in a topic you created or post replied to, uncheck the box next to Subscribe to This Topic under the Options category before you Submit New Topic or Submit Reply.

Please note: RunRyder does not send spam or unsolicited emails and does not sell or give out members's email addresses ever.
Disable Email Notifications

There are Six Items to Consider to manage your RR email notifications.

If you use the personal messaging (PM) system or are subscribed to a topic, you cannot disable email notifications. You can change the frequency of email notifications by going to myHome - Edit Options (Messaging, Subscriptions & Notification) and changing the waiting period for PM Notification, Forum Notification, and/or Topic Notification. The longest waiting period between when an email notification of new activity is sent to you and the last time you were active on the site is one month.

If you do not use the personal messaging (PM) system and are not subscribed to any topics you can disable email notifications. To do this, go to myHome - Edit Options (Messaging, Subscriptions & Notification) and select no for both Enable Private Messaging? and Have "Subscribe To This Topic" checked by default when posting?. Then click Submit Modifications. Lastly, go to myHOME and under Subscribed Topics choose to Unsubscribe From All Topics.

Following the steps above will ensure that email notifications will not be sent to you.
Missing Email Notifications

RunRyder members are automatically subscribed to topics they create and post reply to. To make sure you are notified via email of new posts under a topic you create or post reply to, make sure that the box next to Subscribe To This Topic under the Options category is checked before you Submit New Topic or Submit Reply.

If you accidentally uncheck the box, which could be the case if you are missing email notifications, you can manually subscribe to the topic you are involved/interested in by clicking the Subscribe to This Topic link at the bottom of the topic's page. After you are subscribed, you will receive email notifications when there is new activity in the topic.

You can adjust the frequency you receive subscription email notifications under myHome - Edit Options (Messaging, Subscriptions & Notification).
Privacy of Your Email Address

Your email address is never displayed or available to other RR members unless you send email to another member via the RR email system. Use the RR PM system so as to reveal your email address
