One of the great things with this hobby is that you can learn at "your" own comfortable pace...............and the more you fly the more there is to learn. GREAT HOBBY!

That being said, I was just curious to how many tanks of gas (practice) it has taken some of "you" to learn to hover, nose in, move to forward flight, inverted flight, aerobatics, etc?

From the horses mouth

I had about 60 hours of sim time the first time I flew my Raptor, and I hovered it quite good, I was very happy, I had no problems hovering !!

It just turnd-out this way, that I had the simulator all this time before I could afford a heli... Some people say get 10 hours on a sim and go hover, I would say more like 20 !!

It all depends how much time you put in to flying.
If you fly once a month it will take forever.

I am one of those slow learners. I have had my heli's for three years and am just doing forward flight. I don't mind taking my own sweet time. What I really like about this hobby is meeting all the people and of course watching all the amazing flying.

I am starting my fourth gallon and my second year with aircraft. Currently I can hover tail in and side in and I am just starting forward flight. I am taking it slow and spending about an hour 4-5 nights a week on the sim.

It depends. Practice on a simulator. It will help orient your fingers and do wonders to your confidence.

Fly safe.

Great Hobby

I'm with you DAVE H. I have been into helis for about 6 years and only now into forward flight. No time to fly in the beginning, only now I have time . But thats the great thing about this hobby, great people and you do it at your pace. Also where else would get so much help and entheusiasm for nothing.
CLIVE

If it cannot fly on it's own, then I won't be much help....

I'm currrently working on my nose-in-hover and auto..

One crash so far (an unschedueled nose-in auto).
