what is an inexpensive model heli that is good for a beginner (i.e. not too hard to assemble, take care of, control etc.)

Thanks!

The caliber 30 rtf is coming to the US in a couple of months (I think June). It should be a nice beginner heli. I am going to get one as my 2nd machine (I have a nexus already).

Beginner Heli

OK i'll get in on this. How about the Hawk IV ?

Good inctructions , fairly cheap, usually easy to get parts and not hard to maintain. The only kit i know of that has the muffler included.Need support?Heck there's lots of it right here.I own three ,I LIKE EM.....

amazing how you can heartedly recommend the Caliber30 seeing
as how maybe a handful of people have flown them.

I said the caliber 30 should be a nice helicopter that is not "heartedly recommend the Caliber30" It just seems to me you are getting more for your money with a caliber, and yes it too includes a muffler.

Any "new" machine will have teething problems I would stick to the Raptor or Sceadu.

Newbie Heli?

Caliber 30 The ONLY heli that takes the crown from the other "butt ugly" thing; It knocks the Raptor off "the butt ugly seat" It looks like it landed on top of something else ugly!! I just "calls em' like I sees em' " Those guys in Asia are getting something in their tea that's just not available here yet.

don't judge the book by its...Co..

It's pretty much stereotypical in this society.. image seems to be quite important thing. As for me what's the machine can perform is the most important thing.. best case scenario .. Nexus vs Raptor... just look at what the raptor can out perform nexus even though wasn't that great of a looking bird. If I would have know more about Raptor I would have bought one without hesitation by the way it can out perform Nexus as an entry level heli. So folks I would perhaps suggest . Give it sometimes before "putting a foot in horse's mouth"??

Newbie?

You will not find a comment I have made anywhere about the flight capabilities of the Raptor, by all accounts Raptors are great flying helis right out of the box....BUT... they are still ugly IMHO, that's ALL I have said about them, and the Caliber takes the cake for the newest ugly duck on the block!!!....hehe
I don't care how well either of them fly.......THEY ARE BUTT UGLY!!!!
BTW, Naomi......what "sterio typical" are you talking about???

Ugly duckling can turns into beautiful Swan!

Well i won't be too critical about how they look .. image can be change.. such as putting a nice fuselage over it or changing to a different canopy if you don't like it.. no big of a deal..

Newbie heli?

Hehehe......there are only two ways that come to mind to improve the looks of the Raptor or the Caliber, You have mentioned one of them.......definatly change the canopy.....OR......the other (and preferred way) would be to place those canopys under the wheels of a VERY BIG BUS....at rush hour!!!....hehehe...that would fix the appearance real good.

first heli

This is asked on almost a daily basis. You can check through the archives or you can get reports on various brands and models from:
http://www.rchelicopters.org and / or check out the spreadsheet that compares the various 30 size machines that have some "experience" for awhile in the marketplace at http://www.nitroburner.com

Check out models like the Century Hawk IV, TT Raptor, Hirobo Sceado and Schuttle, J.R. Ergo 30, Kyosho Nexus etc,

Take a serious look at the Century Hawk IV ($220.00) with the extra BB upgrade for just another $22.00. You will have a great 30 at a low price that is easy to build, easy to fly and inexpensive and easy to repair if you need to. One that comes with one of the best one piece CNC machined aluminum mufflers available. This heli has proven to be very dependable and reliable etc. For the price they are hard to beat.

Phil (I love selling them in Canada)

Symposium

Hi Bladerunner,

Yes, I got back on thursday. It was nice to meet all the new faces and to get a chance to see many of the old ones again. Not only is the flying and technology of R/C helicopters a great part of this hobby/sport, but all the great people one meets over the years is a super bonus.

Unfortunately, after finally getting all the initialization etc. set on the the Co-Pilot, I couldn't get my reliable OS50 to start in that cold weather!

I deserve the "Doofus" award for the year, because when I was packing up the heli for the plane ride back, I noticed that I had the fuel line plumbing reversed!!!!!

Oh well, it was too cold to fly anyways. But I would have liked to complete the test of the FMA just to see how well it worked.

Plumbing?

Yep, some times it's hard to see the trees because of the forest!
It was cold and windy, but everyone showed what us hardy Canadians are made of.....we'll fly in almost any weather..... I had a good time and will be back next yr.
