I need some help here. Could someone tell me if the clutch bell is supposed to have about 1/16 of an inch travel up and down? It is the standard JR type clutch. The clutch bell as well as the pinion gear rides up and down.. is this normal?

Mine did this after a rebuild, but then I went and re-read the instructions. You are supposed to locktite the pinion to the bearing. After doing this the play is gone, and it spins much smoother. I am a little worried about how long it will hold though.

A little thread lock on the pinion is good, after you push it in the
bearing, then push the start shaft through the center ...holding the
clutch bell & pinion tight in the bearing.....reset your hex adapter
down on the shaft against the top bearing holding every thing in
place, nice & tight. hope this makes sense.
