G'day all,

As Omurru mentioned, the two of us each won this heli. Strange coincidence I think.

Anyway, after reading the discussions on this heli I snapped & posted pics of the one I have. http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/freya3d/...e+30+CP&.view=t

Sorry about the pic qualities, it's my first time with my new Nikon Coolpix 995.

This is what I think of it so don't flame me for it! I own several Hirobo helis & support them so it's no wonder I'm biased towards the V30.

First of all, it's damn ugly & secondly it's a brick. It weighs 2.9-3.2kg, which is heavy for a 30, the Shuttle ZXX weighs 2.5Kg. There doesn't seem to be a 50 option.

The rotor head doesn't operate smoothly, it may need to be worn in. The swash has limited vertical travel, as it is, there is hardly any negative pitch. The paddles look weird with what Omurru calls 'Vortex' tips.

At least the frame looks neat. Although it could be a hassle to service. Guess what? The engine mount is plastic! Wait, there's more, no muffler is included! Plus, perhaps limited to the one I have, the clutch shoe mounting holes weren't even drilled in all the way! Besides that, the shoes are heavy-duty. The undercarriage is fixed on via rubber dampers.

The tail pitch slider is fairly decent & the 55cm wooden blades are symmetrical. Setting up CCPM looks like a nightmare to me, then again I've haven't had to use it.

I didn't put it together as will be selling it. Need the cash to pay off my Sceadu 50!

I was seriously considering getting one and upgrading my Raptor 30 to a 50, Now I'm starting to hear a lot of bad reports I think I will just get a R50 and keep my R30 as is.

I've clicked on the link posted above & the full size photos option is not available. It's there when I'm logged on Yahoo. Is it for any of you? Damn albums are nothing but trouble.

Premature

Have you flown it yet? Same kind of remarks were made when a very well known plastic heli came out in 1999. Think they called it a Raptor.

Let us know how well it flies before you knock it.

Huh?

I thought the idea of this heli was that it's going to be durable and cheap to repair?

I'm sure it's not a Sceadu or Voyager.... but it cost's half as much! I want one! I crashed my Logo this weekend and guess what... it will cost more to repair than this whole kit costs!

we'll see

I picked up my venture on friday from the LHS. Overall, I am impressed with the kit and the instructions, I will be able to report on the quality after it flies for a couple gallons. The only "huh?" I see is that my extra pacs will not fit in the slot for the battery pack. I'm sure it will amount to no big deal.

Lift, you're right, but I'm not basing this on one report. There are several things that I'm not wild about, like the plastic motor mount and front mounted tank, I've read that it does cause the cg to shift enough to require a trim change. And there is some concern about the frame strength, I may still get one but I'll wait till I hear more real world reports.

Lift, did you read my last line? I have no intention to fly it. I apologise for the negative comments, I'm very, very biased.

It seems you need to be a member of Yahoo to view the full-size images. That true?

Just reread the site, looks like you have to pay to view them in full-size. Grrr.

Blade, I hadn't used the slideshow for ages until you mentioned it! Ta mate. It shows the images at approx half-size.

I saw one fly this weekend and I have to say it did very well. The guy gave it some pretty hard abuse, and it took it just fine. As for the pitch travel, it must be able to get it. Becouse the guy was 3Ding the crap out of the thing. And he did severall inverted flybys, and climb outs. It also did autos very well. For a cheap bird, it doesnt look to bad. But a plastic engine mount does raise an eyebrow. So who is going to be the first to machine a metal one? Just kidding. We will just have to see how it does in the long term.

Build it, fly it, crash it. Repeat as often as needed.

Well I don't know about long time durable of the heli but I will say this the heli will do anything any other 30 size will do and 60 size. Scott Gray demoed one on sunday for use at a heli meet and he did every thing from fai moves to full blown 3D. He was doing caoses with it to travling and ali tic tocs, backwards rolling circles, 400 foot rolling tailslides. This heli has all kinds of pitch!!!!!!!

It will be intresting to see how the heli will hold help after a season of hard flying and a normal dumb thumb crash.

LOOKS??

since when does looks make how a bird handles?

i keep hearing how ugly the heli's look being made. so if its not an XCELL canopy it will be ugly i guess.

i like the raptor statement above.. everyone said its ugly, its cheap junk, and some people still try to put it down to this day. but they sell alot of them and there are people flying the heck out of them.

and i agree with the guy above if you didnt fly it how do you know it wont perform? also do the JR links need to be sized with there tool to get rid of the stiffness?

im going with a rap 50 anyways so i dont care. but every time someone does a review it starts off with "HOW UGLY" who the hell cares if it performs

looks dont matter, its whats on the inside that counts. but if looks really dont matter, then why do people put decals on the helis, build scale fuselages, and spend countless hours detailing their canopies? id spend more time on the setup of the mechanics (just as anyone does) but its nice to be able to say "i spent a lot of time on it, and damn it looks good too" .

I agree, that new JR heli right out of the box looks like it crashed into an ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. heh heh

Personally

For me , I would like to have a proper orientation of where the Heli is going ..that is all I need decals for .

In the begining , everyone said Raptors are ugly..But I guess they did pretty well in Mechanics . My only doubt is , how the plastic Mount will behave.. may not desipitate heat and may flex.. donot know.. but I am sure folks at JR have done that already Coz , they know , it is going to be a tough compition out here

Stay tuned guys , if someone getsa chance to fly it , please let us know

I agree that "looks" has no relevance to a machine's performance; but I also think that appearnace plays a big part in how one (and others) perceives his model.

I had a Raptor; it flew okay. But I had an almost uncontrollable urge to wear a bag over my head whenever I flew it...

Jeez..... Plankers have been putting engines on plastic mounts for years. I've personally cowled an engine so much it totally fried and the last thing that was hurt was the engine mount.

I bought one last night from Aerohobbies. When I came in Andy asked me to check out the frame... it looks allot like a plastic version of the Ergo CCPM frames. Then he said "grab it and try to twist it", it wouldn't move a millimeter! This frame is rock solid tough! I haven't flown it yet, nor have a flown a Raptor so I won't go there... But the quality of construction looks much better than the Raptor.

Since I noticed it looked very much like the Ergo I asked Andy if any parts were interchangeable between them. He said it looks like the tailboom and various other parts may be interchangeable. He even pulled down an Ergo .30 motor mount and it looks pretty close to the plastic one that came with it. I'm not really going to worry about what the motor mount is made of unless I have a problem with it. This is not a Caliber 60 and I don't expect that kind of "no expense spared" from an entry level heli.

The head mechanics are WIDE, it seems they were able to achive good pitch range with less swash movement by using longer lever actions in the head. I didn't check the pitch but the manual clearly states that you need to make adjustments to the head to set it up for 3D. My rotor head does move smoothly, perhaps Taipan's just didn't get enough time with a ball link sizer in the building process.

The kit didn't include a muffler, but I'd rather pay $10 less for a kit without a muffler than get one that is a piece of sh*t that I don't want.

I'm going to try the new Hirobo 30 size engine in this heli, it should be more than enough power to go all the way to 3D when I am ready. I don't think I'll ever want to make this a 50, I'll buy a Sceadu or something.

I want something that's relatively cheap that I can thrash around without worrying about the potential repair bill. Untill now there has only been the Raptor and Hawk... now we have the Venture and soon the Caliber 30... cheap helis to operate and maintain that still yield good perfomance..... we have OPTIONS folks... this is a GOOD thing!
