RR RC discussions work with an emphasis on day in and day out productivity. The site's retro non-flashy look is by design and gets the job done. The following is under design and coming soon. Sites are forums or subsections (re)displayed in logical collections including your own.

Since "Drone" is just the mentally challenged equivalent to "multirotor", how to make the distinction? To me, an actual drone is autonomous, which is not a part of the hobby (at least not legally iirc . . .).

Friends don't let friends become electrotarded . . . .

Yes but this is an RC (remote control) site. RR must expand and partition off all aspects of RC including the business side. This will not effect how RR's current helicopter hobby discussions work.

The battle of semantics is over.

Thanks for the feedback.

spending time, paying attention

I think "drone" is a ubiquitous term that now means more than just multi-rotors. Some of the following (taken from above) are being marketed as drones.
Helicopter
Multi-Rotor
Tandem Rotor
Autogyro
VTOL
Plane
Jet
Boat
Sub
Car
Truck
Motorcycle
Parachute

Since the choice word is "drone" and since inception has created a burden for all RC aircraft hobbyists there should be a FAA UAS parts 107, 336, 333 section to help people understand the additional legal requirements now associated with all RC aircraft.

One more to keep up with the ever changing times is a Social Media section to share their ig names or allow users to include there instagram or fb names under there user name. Encourage the use of a #runryder hashtag on users social media posts. Keep the hobby relevant.

For me it's about cross pollination. The apathy with the RC helicopter hobby is profound and getting worse. This time it's not the economy. If someone buys a drone at the (toy) store he or she might come here for support and or to create a classified and then find out about the more serious (non-drone) side of things.

I bought my first control line model when I was 7 in 1967. I've been part of just about every part of this hobby. I "roil" at any attempt to create divisions within "models".

There has always been a subset of this hobby that believes that what they are doing is somehow superior to everyone and everything else. They are pretty arrogant about there self-given position at the top of the food chain and have no trouble looking down on others.

When I was younger the AMA pattern folks seemed to believe they were the anointed ones. Today is seems the jet fraternity has come to believe they are the apex of modeling. My personal opinion of jets is that the only challenge to them, is paying for them. I find many turbines to be near turn key "kits" and many EDFs close to bind-and-fly ARFs. The point isn't that I don't like jets- the point is I don't appreciate or understand what I perceive of as arrogance. I don't understand their position.

Car and truck guys don't seem to get much love but they are keeping this hobby afloat.

On to drones and what should be done about them on a discussion forum... It is my belief they must be included as any other element of this wide and wondrous hobby. The modeler that buys a DJI drone from Best Buys today is tomorrow's helicopter pilot. Over the years I have tired of various aspect of this hobby but I've always found something in the same genera to take its place. If I tire of helicopters, I may go glider flying. If gliders become less entertaining, there is so much to explore in boat racing. Many people that start in drones will, at some point, begin to look around and notice there are other areas of this hobby that are equally entertaining and possibly more challenging.

"Well, Nothing bad can happen now."

"the apathy of the rc heli community".....interesting choice of words but you've tried the cross polination thing before. I'm not going to sugar coat this.

Now rr is a hollow shell with the few dozen same regular voices, most of which need to go get lives outside of here and are highly unlikely to be able to support yours no matter how much they talk about this that and everything else all day here. RR is dying again, Mark, and that has nothing to do with the rc heli community (an abstract) and everything to do with how you run it. This needs to be said.

You're appreaching to the choir.

H-Freak grew and grew, this place has had a rough patch. I only look at RR for heli info because I don't like overwhelming long threads, OT / bs and want straight up info and answers and there are plenty of other sites for the other flavoring crap for those who want it. Being all about helis was the strength of RR, please keep it to helicopters and keep it small, as the hobby as a whole was and always will be small and subject to the whims of the economy. You have thusfar endured and should be proud of that.

Been here with you since the start of the site, liked it best before you went full time on it but understand the need to make it a business to sustain it. I don't see any reason to diversify the site again but it is your site and maybe starting NEW sites that link to this and keeping this one from cluttering up might be the ticket.

I don't understand that. RR has been 100% RC Helis for 16 years. The three Off Topics forums don't count and can be easily ignored. The "Start Here" link defaults to NO off topics.

RR policy is straightforward and the discussions are lightly moderated. I will withhold further comment and let my handy work speak for itself.

RR has been my full time occupation since 2003 and continues. Thanks for the feedback.
