"There has never been a scenario where a white person calls a black person that and it's simply meant as friendly banter or a term of endearment. Have you heard of such a thing?"
Um yeah, totally have... by me and lots of my friends. I had one big heavy black friend that I had so much fun with. He used to say were were true brothers, he was just left under the lamp too long when he was born. We used the therm "whatup my n-word" every time we met. I also nicknamed him The Eclipse, because his big black behind blocked out the sun. I also hung out with a group of 6-7 guys (who were electricians) and every guy but one was named Dave. Well, one guy was black. So his nickname (every body had one so you could tell who you were talking to) was "N-word Dave". And he's the one that came up with it. We all loved that guy. And it was hilarious when we'd be out having beers and we'd all call him that and people not knowing the story would literally have a melt down when they heard it. So I fail to see the big deal. Us whites hear ourselves getting called names all the time by non-whites and you know what we do??? We ignore it and move on.

The black kids on the other hand could say anything they want, be as obnoxious and racist as they pleased, be completely exempt from it all, and at the flip of a switch be as offended as hell. Weaponized hypocrisy. Absolutely brilliant. How do you do it?
I sorta kinda see your point of view here, but still it sounds like you are whining about not being able to use the "N" word to your heart's content. If you really want to use the word that bad...by all means use it...just be prepared to get your a$$ kicked if the wrong person hears you. (that's not meant as a threat btw)

You make it sound as though all black kids say what ever they want. I think that a gross overstatement. SOME black kids can be very obnoxious, disrespectful, and yes, even say some dumb as$ racist stuff, but you know what most black kids are taught? If you give it, you better be prepared to take it too. In other words, if you don't want to be called names, keep your mouth shut or you asked for it.

But in any case throwing the "N" word around is cultural in some black communities...it doesn't make it right, it doesn't mean ALL black people use it, and it sure as hell doesn't make it okay for someone else to say it.

This story is amazing to me and probably partly, if not entirely untrue. The ONLY black guy in your group says its okay to call him "N" Dave? Cool.

Do you think he would have been cool enough to let you call him that in front of his friends and family? Would you go to his neighborhood and feel comfortable calling him that? How about in your own community outside of your group of friends?

Nah, I don't think so. If you really were a true friend to him, you wouldn't use that term even if he said it was okay out of respect for him and your friendship. And NO that word has never been term of endearment.

Sorta kinda getting the point is a refreshing change around here.

Edit:

Fair enough, sticks and stones etc. etc.... So, some guy or girl of unknown color and unknown intent on the other side of the world put the N word on a sign that none of us would have seen if you did not repost it... Maybe you and i should just relax? 6 billion of us here on this big blue marble, some are not as great as others. Sticks and stones. etc. etc...

For the most part, use the word at your heart's content. Like Lady said, be prepared for unintended consequences. However, if someone strikes you for something you said, they are going to jail. On the other hand, you may not wake up

Nor sure about "most", but to many are involved with gang warfare and drug dealing. Way to many are criminals statistically speaking.

Its just sad as hell.

I'm thinking of a word completely unspeakable in America.
It's got a "g" in it.
It's got an "er" in it.
It's got a "n" in it.
Yes- it's got an "i" in it.

Thant's right. I'm going to say it. I'm thinking of Ginger. Speak it in public and there is a good chance your career is over and better chance you'll get knifed by an Irishmen.

Do people in the military need to be doing this on base? C'mon guys.

But the best part are some of the comments.
Like this one. "Meh.... I am white and could care less."

Since Trump was elected, things like this seem to happen a lot more frequently. Are we going in the wrong direction or has it always been this way I wonder.

All inputs are welcomed and it not about being "PC" but please be respectful.
I complete find this unacceptable, however the reason this is done is so social justice warriors such as yourself can scream racism and assist in dividing this country even further. I will guarantee that when they find the culprit if the culprit is the same ethnicity as the slur it will not be front page news and be hidden on some back page. Please note Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can not hurt me. I learned this prior to Kindergarten and it still applies today. Our President today is not the divider and chief of the previous administration. This president wants citizens to work together for the betterment of the country. Remember MAGA!!!

I wish it were that simple. What you fail to understand is that just because a few black people say it doesn't mean all black say it. Most of the black people I've met absolutely abhor that word, but then again, they have a better understanding of the origins and the true intent and meaning behind the word, than say, your average hood rat who doesn't know much more than the distorted view of what they see on television. They need to be educated. But you can't police everyone, but I let my young black airmen know that saying that word is not empowerment, but it does put them in a box whether they realize it or not.

It's not hypocritical as much as it is miseducation.

But regardless, a black person calling another black person the "N" will never have the same context or have the same vitriol as it does when a white person with ill intent says it. No matter how some people try to pretend doesn't mean anything, that word cuts deep. And for some reason, when ever a white person has a confrontation with a black person and wants to put some ummmph in his distain....that word comes out. He not just another person that you had a disagreement with, it's "that stupid N" or stuff like that.

Many? You could not be more mislead sir. You shouldn't take too much from statistics with an agenda.

Those people you speak of live in some very crappy circumstances and have grown up with a "survival of the fittest" mentality. And not all of them are criminals. Being a criminal is a choice, but people are also a product of their environment. That's not an excuse that just reality.

What often leads people to choose those paths is lack of education, hopelessness, and degraded sense of self-worth perpetrated by negative stereotypes and subliminal messaging.

Plus, you are ignoring all the other "black" folks out there whom hold good paying jobs and are well educated and articulate. If you looked at less biased "statistics" you might see the other side of the coin a little clearer.

There may be thousands of black men locked up for whatever reason, but there are thousands more out there doing amazing things. You just don't hear about them or don't care to hear about them because it's not as entertaining as watching some dummy hood rat acting like a fool while feeding bad stereotypes.

What's interesting is black, white, mexican...whoever, if you throw a few scraps out to those who have very little, they will fight over it...it's human nature. It's not just a "black" condition. White people fight, lie, cheat, steal, and kill over resources too. Only you rationalized it, legalized it and called it "war". Been doin it for centuries and it goes on everyday.

Not the point. Those who do use it, keep the word alive.
