Impressive piloting skills.

Doubt the drone would have any impact (pun intended) on the train if a collision were to happen.

My problem is that he is flying on private property, without permission. He is taking chances flying through, inside, over and under a moving train. He has an investment of $1,000 while the railroad has an investment of millions. Had he flown under and caused a derailment, who knows what could have happened? If he had permission, I am very cool with what he did. Not so happy if his video ends my ability to fly racing drones. I remember when I was a kid, even putting a penny on the tracks could cause the train to derail. Does his video encourage others with less ability to try the same thing? I believe it does.

Oh, I totally agree with you now. When I was a kid, I believed anything an adult told me. Long and short really was, leave the trains alone. I know better now, but sometimes adults have to exaggerate to get kids to behave and not do stupid stuff. If it is not mine, leave it alone.

Not to derail this thread ( literally )
Living by railroad tracks as a kid, I saw a lot of attempts of people trying to derail a train, best one I saw and certainly frightened me was a railroad tie across both tracks with a huge pile of rocks around it.
Umm, train drove right through it.
Then only possible damage a drone can do to a train is maybe crack the front glass where the operator is.
Anyway, it was an impressive flight. We can "say" its fake so the FAA may not use it as evidence that drones need regulation. But they know even if it was fake, they'd still use it to support their regulation.

Fake? What part was "fake"? We cannot encourage this. At the same time, we need to provide a safe place to race drones. My club is trying its darndest to ban FPV flight.

Wow.
You may want to dial that one back - like, all the way back; otherwise, I don't think I can ever trust another word coming from anything you post.

If that was even remotely true, I personally would be responsible for the derailment of possibly a 1,000 trains in the late '60' / early '70's when I lived next to the main-line BNSF tracks through Pass Christian MS.

I would guess we flattened several hundred dollars worth of pennies, nickles, dimes, quarters - maybe even a few half dollars while I was growing up.
Not once (that I recall) did it ever end up a smoking heap of rubble and twisted metal (except for the coins of course).

I the main objection I have with this video is that the sight of a drone flying next to the Engineer's cab and the distraction that would cause to the Engineer.
Most of the new locomotives use bullet resistant glass.
But if I was the Engineer, I'd be looking at this thing flying close to me and wondering "What's next? Are they going to attack?"

Believe 1/2 of what you see and none of what you hear.
Fake News will be the downfall of our Republic!

I once put a penny on a train track, it was crushed into a diamond, needless to say I'm super rich now.

I’m thinking the pilot might have communicated with engineer , probably friends . As far as fake comment I’d say not fake , you can watch many videos of FPV and I think you would have a hard time proving video was fake . The camera makes drone appear a lot closer to train than it really is . I see no issue with video besides the cost of equipment if drone went in .

I stole it ,flew it and gave it back ;)

With everything that is going on, I wonder if our r/c hobby even has a future. With reckless behaviour like this, and China mass marketing millions of rtf items to the average mutt, and sold in department stores, and most internet sources, what can we expect. I do not believe that "mote catro"flying machine belongs in the hands of the masses. We are now seeing what can, and will happen in that scenario, and it ain't gonna end well.
