Seems really excessive..anybody here ever make a claim for insurance benefit and or collect on it?..aside from being allowed to fly at a few events the magazine has been the only benefit of my 23 yrs. Membership; maybe we should start a heli-only "community based" organization to satisfy any Govt. Nonsense.

I do a great decending funnel!

Actually, I think it is a bargain!
Some of the things the AMA does that come to mind:

1. Umbrella organization for all the special interest groups
2. Aviation Museum
3. Scholarships, education
4. Government relationships
5. Insurance for both hobby and business (for hobbyists and site owners)
6. FAI relationships
7. Field Improvements
8. Flying site protection (and location)
9. Advertising
10. World class flying site for hosting dozens of SIG events, national and world championships

...and so much more.

I am sorry you don't feel that the AMA is important to you, but it most assuredly is vital to the health of this hobby/sport regardless of which branch is of interest to you.

I agree it is crazy. I do not know what to say. We are in a bad state in many ways for RC community. I wish things would change, but I am afraid it won't.

hmm, roughly 7 bucks a month for 2.5 mil insurance, plus all the things chris listed. wonder what the insurance alone would cost elsewhere

I think it's a bargain as well. I joined when I started in the hobby in the 1990s and have never considered not being a member.

I joined as a Junior member in 1981. I'll be 53, this year. Missed a few years, here and there, but retained my number: 88118.

Regardless of what you feel is outrageous. Contributing to an organization that helps your hobby is never a bad idea.

I don't like paying dues either but it helps my interests then it's worth it.

spending time, paying attention

I doubt very much that my club could continue to fly off our County owned (since 1977) chunk of dirt if we didn’t provide them liability insurance.

The older I get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

Ok, but do you see the problem? Everyone of the posts are from members that have been associated with AMA for many, many years. The new generation could care less about insurance. That is why as the older dies off the membership and AMA fields are lessening and getting less and less!! Geez. Thoughts?

Gary Wright...you have been a member since 1979, ok. You worked for Hobbico or still do, right? You are seeing the worst.

I see many comments about insurance. My understanding is, AMA insurance only pays after a person personal home owners insurance. So I'm not so sure that they pay out for anything. Maybe occasionally, but honestly, is it really worth it?

Does youth and inexperience make it right?

Ace, you are correct AMA insurance is 3 party, eg. you damage something on the property your flying at like burn the crop down, it’s there ins first then the AMA members then the AMA. Don’t ask how I know this.
