I really wanted a long chopper when I was a kid. They looked so cool - and still do. Time has passed and the balance between form and function has shifted. While I'd still really like to know how they ride and steer, I no longer want to own one.

I found the below article entertaining. It doesn't exactly apply to classic American extended fork choppers since they've been around for 50+ years. 50 years is hardly a "trend" that is "ending". Still, it's an article that speaks to me.

Captain America at Barber's Motorsports Museum. Obviously from Easy Rider (1969).

Nice shots of long forked devils. Funny how they all kickstart while standing on the right side. When I owned kick start machines, I always started while straddling the bike.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

After spending a bit of time on an old panhead chopper in about 1970, any desire for that sort of thing left my mind forever.

How do they ride and turn you ask? They don't! The one I rode had a beautiful all chrome springer front but most of the suspension was from fork flex way out front. On a rough road it would get to bouncing pretty good at times.

I saw Peter Fonda on Tv say, that, that bike road and turned like crap, it was just a bear,

I have to agree with TruckRacer
I had a old Triumph with a long tube front end and a BSA with a Girder
front end they both drove like crap

The Girder did ride pretty good but it still handled for sh&^

Same here, never felt the need to try it any other way.

Never got into choppers once I started riding on the road. But as a kid, and
having watched more than a few 'chopper' movies, we kind of 'modified' a few
bicycles w some major rake.......w. very mixed success. After that and moving on over to motorcycles, standard, factory wheelbase was more than fine for me.

But always liked the look of the customs and your video collection had some
pretty nice ones!

EDITED!
