Sleep may be a good thing to talk about. LOL Typing and thinking are hard.
Also I didn't buy anything for Black Friday. That is a first in years. I just couldn't come up with anything that had me cranked up. Starting my classic collection Shuttle and EVO have curved my enthusiasm.
What did you buy new?

Well said eury.
The way that I see it is that it keeps your brain stimulated. I am 70 years and and I relish this new stuff, it keeps my mind sharp and there is nothing like learning new things to keep your interest up in the hobby.

The new to me is the OpenTX Taranis. Thought about just going with a regular rc transmitter at first. I don't know much about coding. My programming skill consists of having figured some basic HTML to work on simple websites.

My problem with the tarans is if you have a problem you just cant go to your neighbor at the field for the answer. I don't know of any one that has one., even though I am sure there is a site for them where guys can trade and discuss their trannys( first gear is to the left and up)

There are multiple forums and a ton of YouTube videos that covers anything you want to know and then some . The support from experienced Taranis owners is next to none ....

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

Wow !! Adorama did a positively Awesome job sending the radio. It was foam packed, multiply enveloped in bubble wrap, with waterproof bagging.
20 minutes to unwrap.
The radio is in fantastic condition.
Paged thru some menus,it's really something else.
It's a mind blower.

I don't know about that. I'm not a drone guy, far from it, but the guys who do show up at the flying field with them are every bit the builder and tinkerers that us older heli guys are. A lot of them build their own stuff from plans, program flight controllers at a code level, and do a ton of experimenting. I'm sure some of the guys who you encounter out at a park or wherever fit the description you just made, but the ones that find themselves at the AMA fields I frequent are fun to hang around with and if anything are more technical than most of the people who fly helis ever were.

I agree....and they're not the guys causing any problems....

Did you get the latest AMA memorandum?

They say we "need to be regulated".....especially hobbyists.

I find the whole drone thing deeply annoying. I have done a fair bit of commercial drone work so I do understand what they are about.

But, to me drones = different hobby. I personally would love it if they were never mentioned on RR again. Ever!

Kinda like slot cars vs train sets. Different strokes for different folks.

Paul, this is the US AMA....as you know.

But this is outrageous.....that the US Congress created a law...duly passed...that hobbyists are exempt from FAA rules.....

And the lawsuit by Taylor prevailed.....

And the AMA....the USA "hobbyist" org.....is in favor of regulation...

to freaking what.....

save them from ourselves?

In the vernacular of those down under....this is total "poppycock"...and even "balderdash"...I tell ya...

Congress created a law and replaced it with a better law. Even AMA agrees. Has nothing to do with which continent you reside.

It all has to do with potential for abuse. Drones have high potential for abuse. If you cannot see that then you need better brain cells.

LMAO....that's a sick joke.

The idiots that comprise the current AMA hierarchy also agreed that it
was OK for the FAA to ignore the US Constitution and federal law.

With regards to the lawsuit won by Taylor.

So, now what's your point?

Who cares what the AMA "agrees" with.....after they acted in the above manner....
