Was for a turbine, but converted to electric power

This is a super scale giant kit. The fuselage was done by Lenn Mount. It is number 16 of only 32 made. He signes his work. The bird is very big at 89 inches long. At 40 lbs, it is a handful carting it around. Since the mechanics are T Rex 700 modified with T rex 800 gear, we had to install a second brushless motor to drive the tail thru the flexible cable. Runs on 17 5000 mah lipos. Flies very well. The Hughes 300 is a 600 class heli, for size comparison.

Cobra

This Cobra uses a Align bl 800 motor, and a 700 class Align bl 700 , 850 kv motor for the tail. T rex 700 mechanics with T's rex 800 gear. 800 mm blades, but need 1020 mm blades. 17 lipos to fly, and has a pro class all metal head. Color was from Krylon Italian olive green. Still have more scale details to do. Flys well despite the weight.

He,(and Olive) may have only made 32... but Eric (Starwood) has the molds and you can still buy it. I just sold my (back-up) fuse signed by Olive, and am still flying my current one originally owned by Al Wert...( just to clarify)

Cobra

Yes sir, you are very correct. This is the biggest heli I have ever owned. Adapting T rex mechanics to work was hard. In the end first flight was a few weeks ago. After six months of fabrication and testing. We still need to work on the tail. But eventually she will be better. I love the presence in the air it has.

Cobra

Wow, she is just beautiful. Very nice. I do not have the scale gun in the nose, I dont have the missile pods either, and if you have seen Eric Babinueax Cobra, its scaled out to the smallest detail. As you know I had to modify the fuse to accept the T rex mechanics, not an easy task. I have a separate brushless motor in the fuse turning that flexi cable that is attached to the tail gear box. Question, do you have a plastic cable that is between your flexible cable and outer brass tube??? Eric said there is supposed to be one, but I didnt get one. Thanks for any info on this heli

I make my own tail drives, but yes, there should be a Teflon liner in the brass tubing to support the cable. I also only use the mechanics to drive the cable... no extra motor/batteries required.. I get about 9 minutes flight time on two 6S 5500 batteries (in series) 12S.

Tail Drive

I dont have the teflon tube, do you know where I can get that? I greased the cable well, but it is in direct contact with the brass tube. Thank you for the info.

You could try contacting Starwood Scale Models with the link below:

They may be able to get you one.

Tail Drivesmaller

Ok, thank you for the heads up. Do you think it is detrimental to fly with out it. My Hirobo Lama is similar and there is no plastic tube. So it is metal on metal, I have had that bird for 9 yrs now with no issues. But it is much smaller.

It seems like it would be much quieter running inside the teflon sleeve rather than just the brass tubing. Is it pretty loud now?
