Filings for unemployment benefits plunged last week to the lowest level since 1973 as workers affected by hurricanes Harvey and Irma continued to return to their jobs, Labor Department figures showed Thursday.

The latest period also encompasses the reporting week that the Labor Department surveys for its October employment figures. Claims are at the lowest level in more than four decades, indicating employers have little desire to cut staffing levels amid a shortage of qualified workers.

That's the lowest in 44 years folks. Companies now want to expand in the USA

What's That? The sound of the liberal's heads exploding? Music to my ears. . It appears they have packed up and left this forum. They should at least come back long enough to thank the Trump voters.

Anyone notice the Dows over 23 a 12% increase this year and the Nasdaq almost 20% increase? I'm not a stock guy but that's pretty impressive. Guess we can thank Obama for that.
Now if we could just get the entitlement crowd off their ass working ..........................

Ya, it's Trump but don't tell the media. They don't want it to get out.

If, by some miracle, Trump can get the feckless Congress to reduce corporate income tax to 15% or 20%.....there will be a huge boom to our economy.

Corporations will then invest in the USA rather than go "off shore".

In addition, only the dolts fail to realize that the corporate income taxes are simply passed right on down directly to the consumer.

The market started to rise not cause Trump was running.... but because Obama was leaving and everyone that had any brain power knew that Hillary couldn't win.

with hillary as Sec of St and Obama as prez, Loretta and Comey, the country hit rock bottom.... with the 2016 election we stopped digging... Trump is simply the middle finger we hired.

We really wont see the true effects of his policies until he is into his second term (this happened to Obama as well)... if the left doesnt figure out how to kill him off first.

Trump may be a business man from a world that moves fast... but congress is nothing but a slow entitled extremely fat kid, and getting it to move in any fashion other than stuffing tax money down its throat to continue to pack on the debt is gonna take an act of god.

(for office in 2016) aka Obama was leaving... the market simply reacted positively to that fact. I recall saying Trump may actually loose the election due to his mouth, but he pulled it off by winning key states, even if he lost the nomination... any other Repub candidate would have won against Hitlary. Keep in mind nothing Trump has done thus far has effected the Tax code yet... They are simply hopeful Trump will succeed... never declare a winner until they actually reach the finish line (actually change tax code).

I don't buy it his election has spurred confidence in the economy all the way around from what I've seen. Guess we'll need to agree to disagree on this one.

Im not disagreeing with you... I think the same as a matter of fact. Trump has done nothing in terms of Tax code or government regulation yet... its all hopes and wishes thus far.

keep in mind also that alot of AI systems employed by large investment houses/firms use algorithms that scan social media, internet, sales reports etc to base forecasts in the market... these may very well be moving the market as a result is my guess and businesses are responding to that in some form or fashion as well by hiring more people or investing in this country.

if policy does not change as hoped for, companies will pull the plug overnight. we've seen it before many times.

I had a quick peek at CNN. The headline was accidentally hilariously fitting. Instead of it being " unemployment at a 40 year low" , "Trump always takes the low road".

All the rest of the front page was completely void of any actuall news, and completely negative. (ahem, CNN taking the low road )

I don't know, I have a TERRIBLE cognitive dissonance headache now.

I have this burning desire to see news, but other than here I haven't been able to find any.

You have my sympathy but with all due respect it was self inflected.

True, self inflicted. I only have a quick look once a week or so.

A couple years ago it was lame and half truths.
Those were the good old days.

CNN is full on at war with Trump. The reverse can be said as well. I would be extremely shocked if they give Trump credit for anything positive.

It's all of the lame stream media. They all spin, pick and choose ,twist and distort, ignore all the facts than serve it up for the brainless.
