Where did you get a new Electra Glide for fifteen thousand. The Ultra Classic, the cheapest Electra Glide, starts at 24 thousand in black and goes up with any paint change. No Harley dealer will give more than a thousand off, most wont give that. As for them keeping their value, those days are long past, unless you put it in a box with zero miles and totally seal it for fifty years. If you ride it, it will lose value, no matter how well you maintain it. My 2010 Ultra limited is listed on KBB at 11 thousand trade in, 14 thousand outright sell, in excellent condition. I payed over 26 thousand for it and have around 30 thousand invested in it.Dealers laugh at KBB now, the book they use lists trade in at less.

As for airplanes, check the price of a new Cessna 172 and an well maintained twenty year old 172. Not even close. Motorcycles and airplanes are both very poor investments.

Well let's see, my grandfather purchased a 1976 Cessna 182 on pontoons for 38,500 back in 1981 and it's valued at over 6 figures today. My farther and I bought two piper super cubs in a basket on Craig's list for 8 grand. Spent two years in the hanger on the weekends and found a nice pair of amphibious floats for one and skis for the other, rebuilt and re doped the fabric and put all new avionics and interior. So ya we invested around 35k into the 1983 and around 19k in the 1978. Guess what the low book value of each is buddy. 1978 with skis and bush tires- 80-85k and the 1983 is well over 110k with the upgraded 210 hp and the amphibs.
So you may be right about the motorcycle but I promise you that you are wrong about the airplane.
And no my Harley is not brand new, I can't afford a brand new hog. I'm in my early 30s and I'm sure a lot of you are older and wiser then myself but I'd love for you to tell my grandfather that his airplane was not an investment. It's value has tripled in the past 30 years or so!

Youngbuck, there are exceptions for older airplanes that are no longer produced and have a following, not all airplane are like that. Newer airplanes just don't have the following the older classics did. I don't know how you value you time, two years of weekends to me would add thousands of dollars to what I figured I had in any project.

Sorry I misunderstood about you bike, you were the one that said you bought a NEW Electra Glide. I do know bikes, having rode them most of my life. At one time Harleys did hold their value well, now with them making hundreds of thousands of the every year, the depreciate like every other bike.
