I charge NiMH at 0.5 amp just because the wall warts were usually 1/2amp. If I am at the field and need it quickly, I charge at 1amp for about 20-30 minutes. Fly and then put on the charger again at 1/2amp.

I charge my flight batteries at 1C when I am at home. I will charge at a higher rate at the field. I believe that it is always better to charge at a lower rate.

I have noticed that most newer batteries do not give you a maximum charge rate. They used to say 5C. Since the change, I no longer charge anything at such a high rate. 2C is about the highest rate that I will use.

Always be concerned with heat. If the battery is warm, maybe you are pushing it a bit. High temperatures destroy batteries.

I have noticed over the years that if you charge ni batteries at a high rate they do not have the capacity as when you charge them at a low rate.

A lot of the info Ive read is that both the high capacity NiMH (like the 2700 AA cells) and the low self discharge (Eneloops) dont like fast charge rates like older cells would take. Radical reccomends no more than C/10 overnight for the 2700s and Sanyo's charger for the eneloop is 400mA (its a smart charger)

I *tried* charging the Futaba 1800 pack at 1.5A and it would start to overheat before it hit the dV cutoff (this was on a Cellpro, so its not the charger's fault). I had to charge under 1amp to keep the temps in line but then sometimes it would miss the peak.

In the end I decided to just charge at the overnight rate only... I have an old Ace Digipulse that would do 150mA so one timed 16hr overnight cycle on that was usually good unless it was completely dead....

BTW, dont charge a 2000mAh eneloop with an unregulated 500mA wall wart.... that's C/4 and you WILL fry the battery if you are not using a smart charger with some type of automatic charge termination (dV or temp)
