I am using a 2S, 2100 mAh 6.6v LiFe battery in mine. While I haven't counted, I can get quite a few 6-7 minute flights on it between charges. Works great, no complaints.

I still use the factory NiMH pack with mine. If it gets low, 10-15 minutes on the charger in the field and it's back up to good voltage. I take the pack out of the TX to charge in the field, it takes a standard 'servo' style connector to charge so my multi-charge cable has the proper adapter.

Page 33 of the user manual (can be downloaded) explains how to switch to a LiFe battery and resetting the low battery warning.

I am using a 2S, 2100 mAh 6.6v LiFe battery in mine.
I like the Hyperion 2S 2080mAh LiFEPO4 in mine (cross reference dimensions), it is a nice fit and also allows me to run a small lead from the pack to the TX.' port where the pack plugs in.
This way I do not need to plug / un-plug this part of the connection from the port each time I remove the pack for charging (keeps the port-connection nice and tight).
IIRC the Hyperion can also be charged with the stock wall-charger.

You should not use a NiMH wall wart charger on a LiFe battery.

When I got my 14SG I did 2 x very slow charge and relatively quick discharge cycles with the NiMh battery.

After that I was getting around 11 hours run time from it so I didn't think it was worth getting any battery for it.

I always have a second one charged up to replace it if it goes south on me, but I would like to try a li po in it and was wondering if the higher voltage is going to cause me problems.

The Hyperion LiFE pack was the only one that was shown with this option.
FWIW I always remove mine.

I am using hobbico 1900mah 2s life. I set 6.5v warning. When charge it will charge arround 60 to 70% of the total 1900mah.

I use life because if needed it will charge in 40 min. I use a great planes electriify charger and do it at 1C

As Futaba specifically made it run at a lower voltage and make a LiFe pack for it I would assume using a 2S LiPo may damage something. Not immediately apparent but a shortened life of some component resulting in its failure.

I have mine set to 6.0v, per the 14SG manual for using a LiFe battery. (page 23)

Hmmm, I have warning set-to 5.8v
Wondering why you all set yours to higher voltage (?)

Futaba recommends a 5.6v warning if you are using nimh batteries; the 6.0v is if you are using LiFe batteries.

Why do you want a lipo so badly? The stock pack arelagy gives rediculous runtime, plus it doesnt have the fire risk or storage charging requirements of a lipo.

FWIW, I wore out my first battery after about 4 years (It was testing over 2000mAh new, I only get 1200-1300 out of it now) so I got a lifesource LiFe 1900 to replace it. I dont get any additional run time than the NiMH but I can recharge it in <1hr and dont have to worry about it discharging in storage...

I would NOT use a 6.0v warning for LiFe. I have mine set for 6.5 and if it ever hits that its close to dead flat. Remember the TX is very low drain so the battery wont sag like they do under load in an RX application. Last time I recharged it at 6.5v it took back something like 1400~1500 out of 1900.....

The Tx is not at all "low drain". The size of its battery demonstrates that, if not measuring the current drawn.

You have the RF, microprocessors, ADCs, memory, etc.

Lot's more power consumption.

That's why it's battery pack has more power and is larger.

Perfect. Same here. I dont even wait to reaches 6.5. Last time I charged with 6.5 if I remember correctly 1400 went in. So now after some use in 6.6 I already charge it. I am comfortable using 50% of it.

6.0 and battery would die even before that.

I dont care what the manual says. A 2s life is supposed to stay arround the 6.6 and 6.7 range IMO

OK I mentioned a lipo but I am not tied in to the lipo. I guess I will try a life pack.
