Just want to pick someone brain on fuel mixture. I start making my own fuel and I have been testing different oil that I can use. I first tested Klotz and it was running great, than I switched to Thor (Light) and the engine is running warmer and cutting in mid Air, idling is perfect. Definitely I got it, it is the the oil. However, with 23% mixture (all Synthetic) I may running too much or it just bad oil? Your feedback is welcome

I don't run more than 14% oil in any fuel I mix. The more oil in your fuel the more difficult and critical your needle settings become.

With the above said, a good running engine that abruptly and randomly shuts off is a good indication of wet fuel. Fuel containing water will run fine to a certain point and then begin to quit for seemingly inexplicable reasons. How do you buy and store your methanol?

I would like to thing that's the case. If it is the case, adding more Methanol would fix it or start over with new brew?

I understand you mix your own fuel as well, but with 14% mix is that a heli mix or just for fix wing?

I hate it if there is water or contamination of some sort. I would have four gallon to waste. I never experience water in the fuel before, is there a way of testing it without running it in the engine? I get my Methanol local from a guy who race and sells race fuel. However, he store his Methanol on cool shade in 55 Gal container. I have a 5 Gal Jug (Hard plastic race type) that I keep in my garage. How long it takes for the Methanol to absorb that much water. I bough mine for about a month ago.

I buy my methanol several drums at a time and store what I'm using in 5 gallon jugs. Assuming his drum and your jug are well sealed, it will stay dry for years. If it's uncapped for any period of time, a few days to a few week depending on you climate, it can go bad quickly. Your storage and his must be air tight. If the drum doesn't make a loud "bong" when it heats up in the sun, it is not air tight. If your 5 gallon jug drips when left on its side, it is not air tight.

You can use a hydrometer to test pure methanol but testing mixed fuel is difficult.

The place were I got my hydrometer is out of business. No worry. They aren't hard to find and they aren't that expensive. I would Google and look around. Maybe Granger. You probably don't need an expensive kit.

Any homebrew store will have one. It's an essential tool for beer and/or winemaking.

I was watching this very same video before you post the link. Thank a lot for steering me at the right direction. At what % do think water will become an issue with regards to Nitro?

No. I'm sorry. I haven't. Do you have a link where I might read about them?

Maybe the cut out is due to an old glow plug.

Check the glow plug.

I'm confused. The oil you noted is marketed as a 4-stroke, crankcase oil for gasoline "...Brigg's and Stratton or Honda racing engines used on Karts,..." I'm not saying it won't work for our engines, I don't know, but it is quite a stretch to use a crankcase oil as a methanol premix. I would have to do some considerable testing before I could recommend this.

Are you happy with your results?
