For quite a while I thought the 'microagression", "safe space",,, and all the rest of that nit wit-ery was just occurring at places like Berkely. Unfortunately my own niece and nephew were trained up in that crap at the UofA. Their father is pissed that he got stuck with paying for that crap. The next generation has more than it's share of hypersensitive reactionary victim nit wits. Fortunately not all are turning out like that.

You can thank "professors" for that... and the reason professors are getting like this is that they want to be liked by the student body, many colleges/Universities have end of course reviews filled out by students about the course and professor they just finished (mostly for professional track, not yet tenured, adjunct and Grad assistants). So this has the direct effect of influencing each professor to be more like a party friend than an disciplined educator... Then add the effects of tenure and you get arrogance and stupidity with no recourse...

yeah... to you. But to a kid or "young" adult... its truly hypnotic, and these companies spend alot on research, and they have proven that these "stupid" commercials/ads and reality shows that 1) they watch attentively and 2) that it influences them to actively seek the product/lifestyle depicted.

That's my point exactly . . . They have no mind of their own and are so easily programmed to do whatever they see on TV.

I expect "educated" people to be able to think for themselves and do it intelligently with the objective of the betterment of mankind, not just for personal profit.

I say we flunk every liberal college student and make them flip burgers for ever. They don't deserve any better. I doubt any of them could get a real job if they tried.

Better yet, let's send 'em all to California and have California cecede. It will be interesting to see if they can survive without the rest of the country. No military support, no federal bail out, nothing.

We've just finished building a large lecture hall complex at a local University. The large Ground floor foyer is a waiting foyer , complete with coffee shop , where large numbers of students gather before the next class
Noisy as hell. When asking why the entrance doors in the the lecture hall stays open, as the noise would surely disturb the lecture and lecturer, I was told the are not allowed to close it as that will make those students bunking class, oversleeping etc , feel locked out , hurting their feelings.

“On many levels, mathematics itself operates as whiteness. Who gets credit for doing and developing mathematics, who is capable in mathematics, and who is seen as part of the mathematical community is generally viewed as white,” she writes.
I guess she totally forgot about the 3 Billion Asians outside the US that use mathematics successfully in their professions

Might I just say, I have dropped out of college. I can't take it. Yes I can do the work, that is not the issue. Students can't communicate and its not a learning experience as everyone had it all hyped up to be. My time at university felt more like prison. Classes consist of sitting down, shutting up, and writing everything the professor writes on the board while they brush over topics at warp six. (still with the understanding most work is done by the student in his/her time) Not only don't they present material in an understandable fashion, they also aren't able to connect with students and see if the information is getting through. Students don't know that they don't care and go through motions because they're used to it from high school. They indeed have trouble thinking for themselves, they do their homework because that is all most of them know.

NO ONE ASKS QUESTIONS EITHER. Silent rooms are nervous rooms, and campuses are the worst of this.

I needed to learn something besides institutional teachings.

I dropped out to let my mind wonder (and I love it).
Something these students are afraid of, or don't know how to do properly. When their mind does begin to wonder, they freeze up and throw cell phones in their faces. Almost as if they want to be distracted, or doped out and unfocused. Imagine setting a trex 250 down in front of them...

I found it more difficult to meet new friends and counterparts at university than at a fun fly. And even more difficult to build relationships. There are the quality few, but for the most part people seem to drift off into the abyss. Even when put together on a project.

When a resident adviser found out I brought my helicopter tools, they said I needed to remove them from the dormitory because they resembled weapons.

When I pulled out my pocket knife to use it during the day, some were almost taken aback at the sight, nonetheless comprehending its practical everyday use.

A guy like me rolls around poking mischief at everything and everyone around campus and sure enough, its an institution of weak folk. Most with misdirection, or no direction or reasoning of "why" they are there.

This is not the environment I need to be in to develop into the kind of man I'd like to be in ten years.

everyone's experience is different. my first degree I earned in the early 90s... it took me far until the Dot Com bust in 2001, then went combat Army ( i needed to support my family as tech jobs had vaporized) and loved it until we got all soft with push ups on knees, stress cards, and constant training involving "feelings". So got out and went back to school and earned a Bachelors in Computer science then a Masters... both of which I graduated with honors.

So I saw both ends of the spectrum... most of what I experienced is with students unwillingness to engage OR in some instances simply complain. The other is with instructors/professors arrogance. So in essence what you get out of college is directly proportional to what you put in. If the school doesn't suit your style, my advice would be to go explore another that may.

The point is that there are plenty of great schools still out there, but the "hard working love to share true knowledge faculty" is eroding away due to millennial entitlement attitudes and all that remains are political activists.

So those that excel in school are those that can weed thru the BS professors, play the game and work smart, sit in front and ask real questions and have no fear of ridicule in class.

As One team mate I had once said during a heated group argument... "Im not here to make friends... Im here to make A's"

BTW... Asians are kicking our a$$ in schools for this very reason... granted what I experienced with some in college was that they have difficulty with innovative thought (imagination) and social skills... then end up suicidal as a result...

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...
