My first big electric

Equipment is all new
Century Swift 620 SE
Align servos Cyclic – DS615 and Tail- DS655
Receiver: Spektrum AR8000
Motor: Turnigy 600 1100kv
Pinion gear: 9 tooth
ESC: Castle Phoenix Edge 130
Castle BEC 10 amp
Battery: Turnigy lipo 5000mah 6 cell 22.2 volts

1. I know I have to remove the Red wire from the Edge 130; does this lead still plug into throttle channel on receiver?

2. I want to run a separate battery pack for servo, gyro ...can I use a 6 volt 2500 mah NIMH pack or should I get a lipo battery?

3. Since Im using a separate battery pack; do I plug the external 10 amp BEC into receiver Aux port?

Yes. You only need to remove red wire if using an external BEC or a separate battery to power the electronics.

2. I want to run a separate battery pack for servo, gyro ...can I use a 6 volt 2500 mah NIMH pack or should I get a lipo battery?

Preferably a 5 cell NiMH or even better a 2 cell LiFe but definitely not a 2S LiPo as you will fry those servos.

3. Since Im using a separate battery pack; do I plug the external 10 amp BEC into receiver Aux port?

No. The purpose of a BEC (Battery Eliminator Circuit) is to replace the need to use an external battery. Use one or the other. IF you decide to use the 10A BEC, then it can be plugged into any spare Receiver channel.

While there are those that prefer a separate battery, there is the additional requirement of not only charging it but that of a switch, and of course the added weight as well.

Align servos Cyclic – DS615 and Tail- DS655
rated for 6V only

Usually BEC's are used to eliminate the need of a separate RX battery.
On a large model an external BEC is better than an ESC internal one.
If you use the BEC. Wire it to ESC BAT plug then remove red wire from the RX lead. you can plug the BEC into a free servo slot .

you can also remove the throttle signal wire from the ESC and add it to the BEC plug and plug it into the throttle channel as usual.

if you want to use a separate RX battery your choices are 5 cell nimh, 2 cell Life. or ( 2 cell lipo with BEC )<-- usually seen on Nitro's

just forget about that BEC ( it's no good for this application)

yes you can use a 6V pack , on your ESC just use a short extension and cut or remove the red wire on that .
