I've been out of the hobby for about 9 years and I'm ready to buy an electric helicopter. I'm going to narrow down exactly what I'm looking for inorder of importance in hopes someone might be able to give a few recommendations for a good option. The last one I owned was a trex 500. I was thinking about align again, but I'm not sure if they're still the most popular. I like the 500-550 class heli or something comparable.

1.) best bang for buck
2.) spare parts availability and price
3.) performance
4.) information availability as far as tips/advice from other people with the same model.

You're not a "pilot" if you fly an RC helicopter. Sorry to crush your dreams #HardTruth

I heartily recommend Mikado..
I flew a trex 550 for a year or two..it was a good performer but heavy..I bought a Logo 550sx and went flybarless about 3.5 yrs. Ago..now I have a 480 also..best models I've owned..most fun..stone reliable and good parts support!

I do a great decending funnel!

Thank you. I was looking at Logo, seems a little more pricey than align but a step up from what I've heard

What really made me want to try a Logo
has been watching XFC videos over the yrs...Mark has some great footage of that contest on here..If you watch Jamie Robertson's Unknown flight from Saturday at the 2011 XFC you will see that no other heli could have done those manuvers at that time. Daniel Jetchin's Unknown flight at the 2009 XFC on Sunday really shows also that these models are capable of a wider range of 3d tricks! There's some other brands of heli's like the Goblin; Protos; Synergy etc. that really perform too..but for longevity; ease of building and "don't have to fiddle with it much--just fly it" just my opinion Mikado and the V-bar system rock.

I do a great decending funnel!

if you want the most popular go with Saab goblin.

if you want a cheap to repair 500 try a protos.

if you got funds spend it on the electronics VS the frame

spending time, paying attention

I'm mostly a gas guy, but am interested in the upcoming Synergy 516.

Also popular in the his size is the Gaui X5, along with the mentioned Logo, Protos and Goblin 500s.

I have a first-generation Trex 550, as well as a Logo 550SX.

Both are fine helis, they "feel" different in the air. I enjoy them both. The best part is that they feed on 6S 5000 mah LiPos and I don't need separate batteries for each heli.

The Logo feels "bigger" as it feels it has more "presence" than the Trex, in the air. The Trex seems to want to fly fast whereas the Logo does what it does, gracefully, and at a slower pace. The herringbone main gear and pinion of the Logo make for a smooth, quiet transmission.

Maintenance-wise, neither has given me any trouble whatsoever. Just add battery and go fly.

Yes, I replaced the stock orange canopy on my 550SX with a bright yellow one from the Logo 500. VERY visible no matter what I'm doing. My Trex has its original red canopy and being a slimmer profile, tends to be dark and sometimes difficult to see in the air. I suppose I could spring for a brighter canopy for the Trex.

Any reason I should ditch them? I fly the 5000mah 45c 6S packs, if they are junk...I would like to know to save my helicopter from becoming a pile of rubble.

I was just all around impressed with the logos. Yes, they seem "pricey" but cost isn't everything....build quality, low maintenance, etc enters into overall satisfaction....

Plus, I like to build...and take pride in craftsmanship....these logos are great and this new 550 2017 incorporates an all alum rotor head, the quick exchange battery system....a lot of great features all in one heli

If you want to get pricey, get a VControl radio with the Neo. A wide range of options all in one place.

There is not an easier to build, set up, tune, and maintain 550 class helicopter than a Logo 550 with a V-control radio and Neo-link gyro.

They are all made for each other. Programming wizard is a dream to use.

Enjoy things that money can buy IF you don't lose the things money can't buy.

Align 550 is tough to beat on design, ease of parts and reliability. Logo's are nice, but more costly to fix after a crash.
