Align are good but they let us test pilot all there new helicopters then charge us for the upgrades , usually also we crash when this part fails so they make loads more money then on spares :-(
I’ve still not forgotten the issue I had with my new 700 dominator .
I had one of the first batches and my front tail gears failed .
My Heli was down wind in strong winds and I just had to put it down safely .
I argued the toss for months with Align and they would not admit there was a problem even though they were bringing out new red gears , which also failed then shims which helped them like 3 versions of the plastic cases.
Really annoyed me how much they lied to me , I even had emails directly off the factory !!
I still love align products but do not buy there test models

ya I'm not overly optimistic about those front gears. especially about the plastic gear case. I don't know what they were thinking
Richardmid1
It is such a shame about having to lube the gears every 5 flights and having grease flying everywhere! Dry lube maybe a better solution but those gears are still going to wear fast at 15000 rpm!
Maybe instead of using us as test subjects, They should ask our opinions about the design before they start production.

There is more than enough talent in this forum alone. That they could have used for free. and it would have increased their sales. such a shameful waste IMO

spending time, paying attention

Wait. This really came off the rails. One group is talking about maintenance of the forward gearbox and the other is talking about removing the tail gearbox.

The 700XN manual can be found on this page: https://enterprisehobby.com/help/manuals/heli-s

For the record, I see no mention of any maintenance of the tail drive system. Like other helicopters, just build it and fly it. Of course inspection and maintenance are always advisable. The forward and aft tail drive assemblies are found on page 17.

Page 9 of the manual says in reguard to the forward drive gear assembly:
Make sure to inspect gears after every flight.
Clean the Idler Pulley and Clutch Bell Helical Gear
surface if necessary and apply some moly grease
to ensure working efficiency and keep durability.
I don't know where "every 5 flights" came from. I see no requirement to remove any screws. Just inspect and if required, apply some grease. Because the model is new, I think that is wise. In time this may turn into every 100 flights.

"Well, Nothing bad can happen now."

Align has just released a new gear case that has a hole for easy application of lube. Yes they reccomend every five flights. Wiring done for 9nce I'm not completly happy will end up doing it over... So used to the 600n I was puzzled for a little bit. Had to notch the frame for the beastx rx wires.

You are right wjvail and that's what I thought they was talking about, I don't do any"maintenance" on the front TAIL gear box or the rear I don't lube shim them nothing I just do a glance and make sure it is in good order no teeth missing, the biggest thing I check is pitch slider to make sure it has all the screws are in and secure in. In the event of a crash I may replace if the are damaged, where they stared talking about the drive train for the main gear/ engine i don't know

The cause of the gear failures was not the original black gears , as red ones failed also .
It was the plastic gearboxes flexing as there much narrower than the older versions .
What they should have made us is a nice Aluminium case .
Problem solved .
Not release three lots of plastic cases , gears , shims bla bla .
I lost a lot of money while they messed around doing this , not only replacing the upgrade parts they should have given free !!! But the crash it caused when I had to ditch it down wind because a full spin it’s gone into because of lost tail drive

I will post the picture of the update. The case is a little bit thicker and new bigger bearings. The upgrade is free you just need to contact the distributor. Its a first i hear of any flexing on the gear box from engin to main. I know there was flexing on 700X tail gear box when they first came out, but was fixed.
