WOW!

That was probably with out a gyro too . I met Curtis when I was 16 years old. He lived in my hometown and I had no idea who he was. But I had just acquired a Kalt Baron 30 heli and had no idea what I was doing. I took it to the field one day and this guy was there with TWO helicopters (I Couldn't believe it) and he was doing stuff I could only dream of. And he stopped and helped me out with the setup on that Kalt. He was flying without a gyro then. An extremely nice guy.

Did he crash? Dang I missed it!

I have read that the new trend is 3D with low head speed, which slows things down. That was enjoyable to watch, as it was not rapid fire.

I have both of his "What's he doing now?" and "How did he do that" converted. Just not sure how much trouble I would get into Copyright wise.

It would be fun to see how today's pilots could handle that beast from 1995.

I was Spektrum when Spektrum wasn't cool

I NEVER saw or knew of Curtis flying without a gyro, but I've only known him since the late 80's/early 90's. That vid was definately with a gyro. He and his dad used to do some real magic with the JR mechanical gyros. I think Dave probably had full PID integration in a gyro well before any were available. Still remember his demo after the 92 nats when he showed the world a pirouetting loop and pirouetting roll. Have some fond memories of events back then with Curtis showing everyone new stuff constantly.

I remember hearing the gyro springs were stretched, but have no first hand knowledge. Pilot workload dropped by about 90% after heading hold was introduced.

Thanks for the video. I hadn't started flying in 95'. Its still impressive to see him fly like that so long before FBL.

What is a pirouetting roll?

Enjoy things that money can buy IF you don't lose the things money can't buy.
