I have a simple request, I did a search and no answers came up for that I am looking to do.

I do not have a helicopter tach to verify the rotor head speed.

My throttle jockey pro governor is using the Pot adjustment, no ATV from the transmitter. I could set the AVS on the Gy611 without the gain and use the extra channel for the throttle jockey. I am using a 6 channel spektrum. (DX6 G3). Want to try the pot for now.

I want to target 17k plus motor rpms. What is not clear to me is the manual explaining engine rpms of 10k to 20.5k. I noticed in the manual for Spektrum radios you can turn the pot to 100% gain and it will give you 17+ k motor speed.

Basically I am asking does anyone have this product? If the pot adjustment is turned 100% full clockwise, will that give me 17k motor rpms governor speed?

I've heard there are some free cheap apps for the smartphones that work well as a tach. You run the app and hover over the phone . I've not used one personally as I have a stand alone tach but for you it might be worth looking into it ....

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

Screw it! I will just turn the pot all the way to 100%! Pretty sure 11.5 pitch +/- plus 8.5 ALi/7.5 Ele cyclic is more than enough to load up the 50 engine to prevent over speeding.

Not a good idea huh?

Right now the pot is at 85% but there is no way to tell where the govern speed is currently. I am shooting for 2000 head speed. I did the calculations, pot 85% gain is 2000 head speed.

I was hoping someone had the experience to tell me that it is close. Sure wished more heli flyers were in my area.

Problem is , it's. really old unit and probably not many use it anymore..... a few of us got then when they first came out and I recall having an issue getting them to work ..... my recollection is that the ungoverned speed had to be as high or higher than the governed speed ..... or something similar....

You calling me OLD???

For the sake of modernization, what governor would you suggest to work on a 6 channel spektrum. I can disconnect the GY611 gain and set the gyro to AVS and gain without using the gain channel on the RX.

PS-- the purpose of your TJ Pro is NOT to prevent over speeding..... it is to lock in your RPM at a constant value ......

They did sell another unit , the REV LIMITER that would help prevent over speeding......

The Align govs work well but since this about a TJ here's what I can help you with.

As you already know you don't have enough channels to do this right but that's OK because you can still make it work. I can remember someone a while back making this work on a 4 channel radio so this is nothing to get to work. If you set the pot to 100% it can't feed in any more throttle than your glow engine will physically provide so depending on the pitch loading of the disk you are basically running ungoverned but at WOT.

Try one flight and if the head overspeeds hit throttle hold, land and back off the pot until you get a headspeed you can live with by ear.

So glad to see that you are still around!

Do u know the numerical values if i open a channel up for the TJ gov?

I can remove my gy611 gain set on gear. Reset the gy611 from cmt to avs and set the gain in the gyro menu of the gy611. This will open a channel atv switch for the tj pro.

If u have the numerical values...i will take it!

Thanks

Never heard of anybody trying to fly a governed nitro helicopter on a 6 channel radio. heck even when I was in high school(18yrs ago) with my first nexus 30 I managed to buy a 8 channel futaba, and I had no idea what a gov was lol Sounds like you like the challenge of getting stuff to work. when there is an easy solution.

If you look at one of my posts from my earlier years around 2003. I solved a problem running gy401, gv-1 with switch glow along with ignitor on 8 channel RX. People were like WTF, I don't understand. *laughs*

I am the problem solver!

I already got Gy611 running without the gain channel and set to permanent AVS at 60% gain. 1 channel is free for a Governor, now I am solving mixing issues. I do not have the numerical values, I am sure TMoore does!

Okay, I fail to mention I am 100% deaf in both ears. I can tune an engine, check temps and go by feel.

In the event you are not joking , I (and others) worked with a deaf member with tuning his heli ..... the only issue we had with him is that he liked to tweak and would screw up the tuning since our last get together.....

So , spend the $4 for the heli tach app I mentioned earlier and tune your TJ PRO using the app .....

I feel dumb! LOL

I got an email from Kurt, no wonder I was having issues. Actually, I do not have a Governor but Rev Max TJ.

*open mouth and inserts my foot*

Got a smart phone?

Take a video of heli at hover land and review.

When the blades become stationary in video, you are at 1800rpm.

Adjust from there if necessary.
