2 possibly 3 bad guys gone...that is certainly a dent in the trash. However, why did they target him and why did he have his 'AR15' with him at the time?

As all news goes...the 'AR15' could have been anything, a Ruger 10-22, Marlin 30-30, who knows. But why did he have 'it' with him at the exact time of the drive by?

Sounds strange. But on the surface, glad the homeowner is safe and the bad guys are not.

Don't mess with Texas as we return fire. Chicago could learn a thing or two from us.

um I think part of the problem with Chicago is...

THAT EVERYBODY IS RETURNING FIRE!

This has a bad smell doesn't it?

How nice he had a fully loaded clip handy.

Also, returning fire sounds good on the surface...like my CCL instructor said: "every bullet leaving your weapon has your name on it." If he also plugged a neighbor 4 blocks away during this time, he could be up for manslaughter.

One big question the homeowner has to answer is: was he trapped and couldn't retreat safely?

The person trapped in his back bedroom with no escape route is justified in using his weapon on a burglar, but a person that sees someone approaching his porch can't just shoot away.

Yeah this fish is starting to smell.

There is more to the story no doubt, perhaps he is a witness to gang crime and they were threatening him? All i know is it is not ilegal to run around with a rifle on, a couple bad folks are gone for good, it did not cost the tax payers a lot of cash this time, and the cops already said they will probably not be charging him.

makes no difference... anybody that took a worthwhile CCL class in Texas should know that although the cops dont charge you... you are now open to a tort suit from each of the families of the dead.

Being Right still has grim consequences...

race baiting activists are probably lining up to pay for the lawyers for each of the thugs... meanwhile Mr "self defense" is on his own... The NRA can help... maybe.

his best bet right now is to get the public on his side.

You are correct...anybody that carries really needs to think about that and be ready. Anybody involved in a self defense shooting really needs to be careful what they tell the police.

My wife and I have CCL but take the position of: if we are going to area where we feel the need to a carry a weapon, we don't go.

I'm so sorry...I'm reverting back to my M1 days.

And no the M1 was not a cool weapon...the M1 thumb is not a pleasant experience. M14 was a grand weapon.

M1 Garand maybe . . . M1a is also box magazine . . . In any case, with all that has recently transpired in Houston, reports of looting, etc., I can't say that having an AR in reach, ready to go would be inappropriate or unwarranted . . . This isn't a namby state where you are legally required to render it useless . . .

Yeah, I just became the owner of one of each not too long ago. 1944, iirc, was the build on the Garand. In great shape, but yeah, getting my thumb bit isn't an incentive to shoot it much . . .

My brother has one, classic. Fortunately it never attacked either of us, but i can certainly imagine losing interest if it had.

and that may be true... but he would still be on the hook for all his attorneys fees (good luck with any counter suit), likely lose his job (if he has one) cause he was in court too much.
My wife and I have CCL but take the position of: if we are going to area where we feel the need to a carry a weapon, we don't go.
same here... but then again I was walking towards the SRP center on fort hood the day Hasan decided to turn against us... I thought I was pretty safe then. SHTF anywhere and anytime. I carry when I can, where I can and hope I never have to so much as draw my weapon.
but why did he have 'it' with him at the exact time of the drive by?
my guess is someone gave him a heads up... within minutes of their arrival.

FWIW Ive been sued before... and I won... but still had to pay my attorney, a counter suit to recover fees was not recommended by counsel (despite him getting paid even if we lost... go figure).

BTW "assuming" is the core of our legal system...

ever heard of presumed innocent until proven guilty?

presumed, synonyms: assume, suppose, dare say, imagine...

that whole incident is full of assumptions on both sides, just so happened that the 3 "bad" guys assumed wrong.
