Not sure why someone would spend $75 or more plus shipping when they can make their own for a fraction of the cost .... is it "pride" ?? Or ???

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

Pride meaning that someone would have the need to have something that was "commercially made" rather than a "home brew" version???

Personally, I know some folks just like that !

Just boils down to personal preference.....

But I do see that the OP said he couldn't find one that would fit ...... so your post was spot on

Canopy

PAUL thank you for the links. The 50 glass canopy might just fit. EEngineer I checked out that article today at my LHS. That bread slice method probably does work good for a fuselage. I think shaping a canopy like that would require your "slices" to be closer to the size you actually need so the canopy walls wouldn't be too thick. I don't know for sure on that, just speculating. Juan I know a few guys that wouldn't do the foam canopy just because of the astethics. Has to be perfect and all that. All I know is a bought or built canopy is gonna break when you lawn dart it and the foam version is way easier on the wallet.

Mine fall down, went BOOM!!

Sorry Juan but I'm one of those guys who likes an original canopy.

Having said that It's great to see people in this hobby who have the skills and patience to manufacture things themselves. I'm not into today's airbrushed canopys as I find the styling far too busy and generally not to my taste. I spent $200 on an original plain white Hirobo D3 canopy for my D3v2 because thats what I prefer, white with a windscreen.

I owned a Caliber 4 when they first came out and had a lot of fun with it. There were some features that I found annoying and I recall writing a post reply on what I would like changed, I just can't seem to find it. It's fantastic to see the new variations brought out by Quest in Japan. They seem to have put a lot of effort into keeping the Caliber's alive and I am certainly tempted to buy another one.

OC, yes....glass cloth.

You should be able to get it at your LHS...

Comes in different thicknesses.

But now you're about to embark on making your own fiberglass canopy.....

With the Depron as the fiberglass mold "plug"....which will allow you to make many canopies of the same style.

Very do-able....

Lot's of info on the internet on making glass mold "plugs"...
